I wonder what this was about....arrest made in attack on dad holding daughter in restaurant, police say
via Fox News.
Colorado authorities have arrested the second suspect involved in an attack on a man who was viciously beaten while holding his 4-year-old daughter in a restaurant. Devon Lee Premer, 22, was arrested Wednesday without incident, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said. Police sought Premer, and had previously arrested Joel Michael Wilson, 31, for allegedly attacking Richard Warry Brown, 39. The attack, which took place just after 10 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Crossroads Pizza and Wings in Pine Junction, was captured on surveillance footage. Brown was holding his 4-year-old daughter when he was punched in the face several times by two men. A bystander eventually removes the child from his arms.Story here.
Journalism is seriously taking a few steps back.
Am I the only person that remembers the old Five W's????
Take this story for example. I want to know what this was all about. Why did those guys attack him (assuming that they had a reason).
If you want to know why I bitch so much about defense coverage its because so many reporters these days don't bother to cover the Five W's.
Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!
If reporters get back to basics then we'll all be better informed! We don't need touchy feely questions...just cover the basics and the public will be set.
SDF claims 96 armoured vehicles destroyed
Hat tip to Jonathan for the link!
via Rudaw.net
Turkey will begin installing domestically-made protection systems on its tanks in Afrin, to shield them from missiles and rocket fire, the defence minister stated on Wednesday as a conflict monitor noted an “escalated” pace of operations in the Syrian Kurdish enclave.Story here.
“We will begin to install PULAT system to our tanks participating in Afrin operation by the end of this month or beginning of April,” Turkish Defence Minister Nurettin Canikli told Anadolu Agency in an interview.
The system, with 360 degrees of range, detects and intercepts approaching anti-tank missiles, Anadolu reported.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) claimed on Wednesday that they have destroyed 96 armoured vehicles, including tanks, belonging to Turkey and their Syrian allies and have damaged another 32 in operations in Afrin since January 20. They have also reported shooting down two helicopters and damaging a third.
Turkey launched its Operation Olive Branch against the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in northwestern Syria on January 20 with the stated aim of clearing “terrorists” from its borders. Ankara alleges the Kurdish armed forces, YPG and YPJ, and the ruling PYD are branches of the PKK, a named terror organization. The Kurdish groups deny the charge.
Wow!
Haven't posted it on the blog but I've seen reports of Turks installing Ukrainian APS on their tanks and now we get the reason why.
The Turks have been getting their asses kicked.
What I find amazing is that we're seeing them shout and scream like they always do when they're in trouble.
They complain to the US about the Kurds that they're trying to exterminate!
Simply amazing.
Lockheed Martin CEO calls her company a national asset???
via Defense News.
Hewson sat down with Defense News in an exclusive interview March 5, in which she spoke about the company’s position within the defense industrial complex and the influence that comes with being the largest defense company on the globe.Story here.
“We in my view have the honor and privilege of leading what is a national asset,” Hewson said. “What we do for this country, men and women in uniform, and the things that we do on advanced discovery that helps change people’s lives, the things that we do to support innovation and growth and jobs, is an important element of the economy. So I take that responsibility very seriously.”
Hewson’s comments were specifically in response to a Washington Post article that noted Lockheed Martin’s revenue from government contracts as being more than the budget of many federal agencies — $35.2 billion, or 70 percent of its total sales. The article went on to compare Hewson’s influence to that of a cabinet-level secretary, if not greater.
This is one of those things that I WILL NEVER forgive Bush Jr and the clowns in his cabinet for.
Those idiots allowed the consolidation of the defense sector because of their misguided belief, almost worship, of free markets.
Now?
We can correct things but just like with unfair trade the American people and ESPECIALLY the US military must be prepared to deal with some pain.
The only answer is to chop up the big defense corporations.
F-35 is in trouble in Italy.
via Defense News.
Italy’s commitment to the F-35 fighter jet may be in doubt, as an Italian political party which has promised to scrap the program edges closer to power.Story here.
Italy held elections March 4 ,which handed no party a clear victory, ushering in a hung Parliament and weeks of negotiations to build a working coalition.
One of the poorest performers at the polls was the incumbent center-left Democratic Party, which received 19 percent of votes. The strongest performer was the anti-establishment Five Star party, which took 32 percent and has claimed it has the right to form a government.
A coalition of right-wing parties, backed by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, took 37 percent of votes and has said it should be called on by Italy’s president to form a government.
Five Star is reportedly mulling a tie-up with the Democratic Party, which would give the former the numbers to forge a working majority in Parliament.
This is interesting and will be fascinating to watch.
The most powerful tool in the F-35 propaganda tool box is the jobs angle. They know or rather knew that they would never achieve the cost goals laid out during planning. They knew that they were putting all of Western airpower in the Lockheed Martin basket.
So to defend against the obvious attacks that they KNEW would be coming they tied it all to jobs.
But what happens when the bean counters meet nationalist?
What happens when you can have all the jobs at home and get almost the same capability at half the cost if you upgrade what you already have?
From what I've read on the net, Five Star will align with another right wing group and declare the right to form a govt.
I expect this to be low hanging fruit and one of the first tasks they deliver on.
From my seat they will go after the F-35 first to gain credibility with their electorate and then tackle the much harder issue of illegal immigration.
Bumerang Mobile Gun System. Sputnik gives us the "why" behind it...
via Sputnik.
Russia is developing its first ever wheeled tank which could be ideal both for counterterrorism operations and conventional warfare. RIA Novosti military observer Andrei Kots took a closer look at the new fighting vehicle’s strong points compared to its tracked counterparts.Story here.
The wheeled tank built around the Bumerang future armored platform will combine the reliability of an armored vehicle, the versatility of an armored personnel carrier and the firepower of a full-fledged tank.
Wheeled tanks are a family of armored fighting vehicles equipped with a tank cannon installed in a fully-rotating turret. Even though less protected than their heavy tracked counterparts, wheeled tanks leave them far behind when it comes to speed, maneuverability and endurance.
While a main battle tank breaks down after 10,000 kilometers, a wheeled tank will do so only after 100,000 kilometers. Great endurance, reliability and impressive firepower make it ideal for combat operations on the flanks, in reconnaissance missions, patrols and combat security operations, Viktor Murakhovsky, editor-in-chief of Russian defense magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland, said in an interview with Russian TV channel Zvezda.
Well this is interesting.
The Russians see the Bumerang Mobile Gun System to operate in the same manner as NATO.
I can't put my finger on it but I see this rig as being more for export than for Russian use. The Russian paratroopers probably won't give up their SPRUT-D's for this vehicle, neither will the Russian Marines. As for their Guards Armies I don't see them ...any of them...giving up tanks for a MGS.
That means VERY limited Russian use and I bet it's just to give buyers a chance to buy Russian instead of Italian, US, Japanese or anyone else who decides to build this class of vehicles.

This is for my EDC guys. How many of you guys have EVER used those Tourniquets & QuickClot you carry?
A post shared by Vertx (@vertx_official) on
This is for my readers that EDC.
How many of you have EVER used those Tourniquets and QuickClot that's so popular and seemingly recommended by all the "gurus"?
I can get most of the stuff.
Hell I carry most of the stuff but I can't wrap my head around Tourniquets and QuickClot!
Why?
Because I reckon if I put a hole in someone its cause I want them to die...or to state it legally, I want to stop the attack.
I don't give a rats ass about keeping them alive if its gotten to the point of putting holes in them.
