ACU 5 Embarks USS Bonhomme Richard.....Petty Officer 2nd Class William Sykes

Dr. Phillip Karber on the Russian Way of War (MUST WATCH VIDEO!!!!)

Thanks to UTAHBOB62 for the link!!!!

Notes I took from the video (incomplete..gotta watch this again!)

*  Crimea was the Ukrainian "Pearl Harbor"...ordered by Washington to not fight back we'll get it back with sanctions.

*  Crimea was the largest air assault in history.

*  The most lethal Russian weapon is the "agent in charge"...he can be in a hamlet, town or city...he will not be buffed up, lethal looking or even skilled in weapons but he will identify who needs to be neutralized (killed), followed, etc...

*  Russia had a plan for the invasion of Ukraine??!!!!

*  Russian MANPADS forced a change in Ukraine attack helicopter tactics...one pilot had been shot out of 3 planes in one day!

*  Contested air space is a hallmark of this fight.  Army Aviation must fight as part of the combined arms force, not independently...additionally ground forces must expect aerial attack AND must learn to rely on fires other than those delivered by air!

*  The author saw Russian UAVs and 10 minutes later was subjected to a GRAD strike!

*  Russian IFVs have a compartment for its OWN quad copter

*  Russian Firebomb Drone (thermobaric) is aimed at ammo depots...

*  The US military has pawned off electronic warfare to the air arms...the Russians have it fully integrated into their ground forces....EW should be its own combat arm...it is in Russia!

*  Electronic Warfare is king in Ukraine, they've seen VERY LITTLE cyber!

*  Author says if you can't read a map, then get out of the Army!  GPS will be useless.  Radios will be tracked and artillery sent to their location.

*  Russians practice 10-10-10...ten minutes for target acquisition, ten minutes of fire, ten minutes to get the hell out.

*  US Brigades have 10 times the emissions of their Ukrainian counterparts and the Russians were capable of targeting every HQ, Forward Helicopter Base and Supporting Elements with Fires, EW or Special Ops Raids...

*  Russians TARGET ALL EMISSIONS!  Wifi, Networks, Burst transmissions...

*  Russians have a 240mm mortar that can go 3 stories into the earth?

*  Two combat brigades rendered combat ineffective in five minutes by Russian Thermobarics...

*  Artillery as direct fire is making a comeback...

*  Ukraine conducts the largest and longest armored raid in history!!!!

*  Ukraine general stated he didn't have enough forces to defend so he had to attack!

I hope you took the time to watch the video instead of just going off my poorly written notes.  I will watch this again and I hope Marine Corps leadership is watching this too.

The Army might be in trouble but the Marine Corps WILL BE IN A HURT LOCKER FROM HELL if its ever called on to face Russian forces if they follow thru with published planning.

Quite honestly the Marine Corps is too light, too dependent on aviation, too lightly armored and too vulnerable to the Russian way of warfare to last even a day.  Tanks, AAVs, Artillery and LAR needs to be revitalized, reinforced and MODERNIZED to deal with a peer threat.

If Dr Karber is right then we need to do some serious work and quickly...

UAE gets a review of Israeli F-35 operations?

via I24 News.
The Israeli Air Force recently hosted a military delegation from the United Arab Emirates to review operations of the advanced US-made F-35 fighter jets, i24NEWS has learned. An American delegation was also present at the time of the UAE visit, sources told i24NEWS.The extraordinary visit comes as the UAE seeks to purchase its own fleet of the advanced F-35 fighter jets, built by US defense giant Lockheed Martin, and amid reports of a burgeoning Israeli-Gulf alliance against Iran.Hailed as a "game-changer" and a "serious upgrade" by Israeli military experts with a $100 million per plane price-tag, Israel received the first of 50 F-35s purchased from the US in December 2016.Israel is the only country in the Middle East to have the jet, where they are operated by the IAF's Golden Eagle Squadron, based in the Nevatim Air Base in the center of the country.
In May, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) revealed that it has used its the stealth fighters in combat operations, making Israel the first country in the world to carry out an "operational attack" using the aircraft.

Ok.

What gives?

Either this thing is top secret and has capabilities that will stun and amaze and it should be KEPT secret or its just another fighter and we should sell it to every Tom, Dick and Harry on the planet.

Spectacles like this don't encourage the "game changer" mantra that many spout though.

The UAE has already been told they can't buy it.  Has that changed?  If it has then what does that mean?

US Army Infantry/Scouts train to evade/kill/report enemy drones...

via Military.com
Army instructors at Fort Benning, Georgia recently opened a new drone training school to teach young soldiers to become as familiar with these tiny flying devices as they are handling M4 carbines.

The 3rd Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment, 316th Cavalry Brigade opened its new small unmanned aerial system, or SUAS, course facility June 11 and recently began giving classes to basic trainees "so they can become familiar with drones before they show up to their units," Sgt. 1st Class Hilario Dominguez, the lead instructor for the class, said in a recent Defense Department news release.

Students at the SUAS course showed basic trainees how the drones fly and how to describe them if they see one flying over their formation.

Capt. Sean Minton, commander of D Company, 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry Regiment, said his recruits learn how to fill out a seven-line report when they spot a drone and send the information to higher headquarters by radio.

Trainees also learn how to hide from an enemy drone and disperse to avoid heavy casualties from drone-directed field artillery.

"Our enemies have drones now," Minton said. "And we don't always own the air."

Glad to see that the US Army Infantry School has read the after action reports from the fighting in Ukraine.

On a side note that last statement is ominous, telling and obvious.  "We don't always own the air".

No shit Capt.  No shit!

Kurganets-25 to get troop trials in 2019...

via TASS.
The first infantry fighting vehicles based on the Kurganets standardized armored platform will arrive for troops for trials in 2019, Kurganmashzavod defense manufacturer said in an annual report on Wednesday.

Work is currently underway to finalize and prepare the infantry fighting vehicle prototypes "for comprehensive trials preceding the acceptance of this armor for service," the report says.

According to the document, "Kurganmashzavod has concluded state contracts for the delivery of experimental batches of these vehicles in 2019-2021."

Happy Independence Day!

Happy 4th of July...or rather Happy Independence Day.

Many wave the flag but I wonder if they're missing the true significance of this holiday.

On this day a group of people decided to act in an extreme form of rebellion, disobedience...whatever you want to call it.

They sought to break away from the most powerful "institution" of the day and to dare speak, think, and govern themselves.

The power of this day is beyond mere symbolism.

This is a day that changed the course of human events.

So my fellow Americans, revel in this, bathe in the glory of it and enjoy the day.  But more importantly consider the meaning of it and think about the challenges that our nation faces today.

As titanic as they might seem they pale in comparison to have the stones to rebel against the crown and seek to establish a new country.

How does your country fare in this "power" ranking chart?

A reader posted this chart yesterday and a few others did a run down of their particular country to see how they fared.

The funny thing?

From my chair it doesn't mean much.  Let's talk the UK for example.  It doesn't make sense for an island nation to top the charts in all areas.  That would mean a serious unbalance in their defense vs domestic spending.

HOWEVER there are a few fields that they should score well in.  Amphibious combat, intervention capability to name just two.

Below is the same chart as above but with some guy doing a comparison between the UK and France.

Take it for a spin and see how you rate things.  This is just for entertainment value and not to start a flame war.

Russia worries you? Then be concerned about these relatively unknown weapon systems...

via Sputnik.
Russian military will receive six types of new weapons that are superior to similar systems designed abroad between 2018-2027, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov told teachers and students of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia.

Borisov listed Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles, a prospective aircraft system for battlefield aviation, T-14 main battle tank on an Armata platform, S-500 air defense system, Nudol anti-ballistic missile defense system, and Tirada-2S system for jamming satellite communications, Russian VPK newspaper reported.
Story here.

Quite honestly when I read the article I was initially unimpressed.  T-14?  Know about that.  S-500?  Ditto.  Sarmat?  Ok, its a nuke but we more than likely won't cross that threshold.

But!

The Nudol?  Never heard of that.  The Tirada-2S?  Never heard of that either.

A quick Google took me over to Air Power Australia and it seems that once again they've been on that shit for a long time.

We messed up folks.

The war on terror, the whack a mole stuff in the Middle East has allowed potential threat nations to not only catch up but to exceed us in certain areas. Whether you like it or not there is a gap in our electronic warfare capability in comparison to Russia.  The Nudol can knock down ballistic missiles and target sats?  The Tirada can go after our sats by jamming?

Hard work is necessary.  We need to banish the idea of fighting easy from our brain housing group.

The next war is gonna be a meat grinder and if it plays out like we're laying out (in concepts for how we will fight) then we're gonna see numerous US units cut off, isolated and destroyed.

Unknown History. The builder of the famous "Higgins Boat" designed a wheeled amphibious vehicle!

Pics via National WWII Museum (here)

Pics indicate that the vehicle was undergoing testing at the end of WW2. That means that the LVT was firmly entrenched as the mechanized landing craft of the Marine Corps.  But the history doesn't lie.  There was an idea fairly early on of a wheeled amphibious vehicle, it just didn't get adopted till 2018.
