Kornet D - VDV

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Is it time for the West to flatter Russia by deploying multiple shot anti-tank vehicles?

Just from eyeballing things it appears that we've standardized on one or two shot launchers. Then its reload time...hopefully under armor but possibly not.

The only thing that would surpass the firepower found on the Kornet D (above) in the anti-armor role (in a light vehicle from the west) would be the US Army's Multi-Mission Launcher that has somehow faded from the news....

20 hellfire missiles on one vehicle??? Talk about the ability to absolutely DEVASTATE an armored column and to become priority number one for enemy fires!

We've talked about armor alot on these pages but maybe the thinking is right. Maybe the JLTV/FMTV/MTVR will rule the battlefield for US ground forces in the future. Just spit-balling but hear me out... Firepower has trumped (at least for the time being) armor. Maybe we're living in an age where mobility and firepower are the keys to survival.

Even with air superiority and US support the Saudis are still getting jacked up by the Houthis...

The Saudi military and the Hadi loyalists launched a big offensive in northern Yemen this week that targeted several areas controlled by the Houthi forces.

Backed by heavy airstrikes from the Arab Coalition, the Saudi military and Hadi loyalists stormed the Houthi positions in the Bayda region, resulting in a series of intense clashes.

While the attack was intense and had air superiority, the Saudi forces were unable to crack the Houthi lines after several hours of fighting on Monday.

According to the Houthi forces, their troops managed to destroy at least three armored vehicles and kill more than ten enemy fighters in the Bayda region.

This is beyond interesting. The Saudis have a region leading air force yet they still can't crack the code when fighting the Houthis. No chest thumping here...we can't figure out the Taliban either...but it does call into question several "conventional wisdom" ideas that are propping up Pentagon thinking.

The Saudis have air dominance. But they can't win. We have air dominance in Afghanistan but can't win.

Is air power overrated when it comes to winning wars? It might be an enabler (like Special Ops) but at the end of the day can it actually deliver on winning?

Usefulness in a tactical situation? I have no idea. Usefulness for urban policing? Hell yes! Usefulness for playing around the back 40? FUCK YEAH!
