Hashemite?  Never knew that was a thing.  Definitely need to look that up later.

Boeing launches webpage for their Chinook Block II

NOTE:  Doing my spin around the blogosphere and saw this tweet from Boeing.  Seems like the full court press has begun for the Chinook Block II. Check out their webpage here.

The Marine Corps Vision (MUST SEE VID!)

Massive themes are reborn in this vid...

*  Marines are the focus, not the equipment.

*  Getting back to the sea is now a focus.

*  The symbiotic partnership with the US Navy is once again going to be emphasized.

*  Expeditionary is back in fashion.  But with an emphasis on being expeditionary FROM THE SEA.

*  Threats are fully realized.  Russian and Chinese (especially Chinese) themes were seen early in the video.

*  Spearheading efforts by arriving early.  Being ready when the nation is least ready is emphasized.

*  Preparing the battlefield for heavier follow on forces was clearly stated. A scalable MEDIUM sized force that can fight up and down the spectrum was stated.  Better synchronization with the US Army in the making?

We're getting more hints at what the new guy is wanting. Should be an interesting time to be a Marine.  He promised a different Marine Corps but I keep getting the feeling that it will not be different but a reversion to the HISTORIC Marine Corps.  Quite honestly I'm expecting something that more resembles the WW2 Marine Corps, just modernized beyond recognition, but performing in the same way.  Island hopping, aviation participating in sea battles, artillery doing the same but without the shock troop action of assaulting directly into the teeth of the enemy.

Naval Strike Missile launched from LCS...much chest thumping in Norway...

Yep.  Looks good and the Norgies are chest thumping.  Before they get carried away we might need a little more range on the thing!

Air Force Global Strike - 341st Missile Wing launch an unarmed Minuteman III with a "test" reentry vehicle.

Who wants to bet that the "test" vehicle was a hypersonic missile?  The timing of this test is just too delicious in light of the Chinese extravaganza.

I expect these programs to go completely black.  As a matter of fact I would expect that in light of the competition between nations that all these programs go completely black.

Are the Chinese trying to bait us into an arms race?

For the Chinese it's mission accomplished.

Every person that has even a passing interest in defense had eyes on their parade.  They had us guessing and marveling at their latest tech.

Funny enough the emphasis wasn't on their fighters, bombers or armored vehicles.

No.

The focus seemed to be on their drones and missile tech.

Putting aside the propaganda value (or better stated, fully realizing that we're seeing a HUGE dash of propaganda in this parade) are we missing a huge part of the Chinese calculation?

Are they trying to bait us into an arms race?

I'm looking at the emphasis of the parade.  I'm looking at our history with the USSR.  Then I'm looking at the terrain in the Pacific region.

I don't think either side can win a decisive victory on land, in the air or at sea. I'm also of the belief that we would see a potential fight turn into a "western front" at sea (to include a few islands).

Add an ill advised arms race to a divided public, crumbling infrastructure, and a budget that is out of control and you have the recipe for victory without fighting.

In essence what we did to the USSR only with us being the victims.  I wonder if they foresee the US crumbling into different regions (assuming that's their plan/thinking)?

I'm impressed by the display but I think we should be cautious in how we assess it.

Driving ban for Boxer 8x8 Infantry Fighting Vehicle

via Netherlands Ministry of Defense.
Defense immediately imposes a driving ban for the Boxer armored wheeled vehicle. This is done on the advice of the manufacturer. There are problems with the fuse on the upper hatch. Work is now being done on an (interim) solution in consultation with the maker.

A few weeks ago, the 197 Boxers at home and abroad already stepped aside. Even then, the measure concerned problems with the locking mechanism of the hatches.

On the public road, the Boxer must drive with the top hatch open. This is necessary to have a good view of the surroundings while driving.

Commanders may decide to use the Boxer during operations, after careful risk analysis. This means that the Boxers can be deployed during a bet.
A minor issue.  Hardly a show stopper.

Bell 360 Invictus FARA...

You have to admit that Bell is doing work.  I'm impressed by their designs and concepts.  Are you?
