My failed attempt at military fiction.

I talked about my failed attempt at writing some military fiction.  It fizzled but I might try again.  Here are parts 1, 2 & 3.  Don't laugh too hard...

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Second battle of Chosin, 2037

Where have all the good military fiction writers gone? Growing up we had tons of guys writing about future warfare with the scenario of how a battle against the USSR would play out. Many of them were damn near required reading. The greats are gone and no one is around to pick up the mantle. I even tried writing about a fight in Africa but couldn't round it out and it fizzled. Might have to pick it back up and try again.

Are all the wheeled combat vehicles we're seeing today just variations on the theme of the gear we saw in the 60's and 70's?

This cops partner is as useless as tits on a bull...

Should have been two fights. First with the suspect and next with the partner that did NOTHING once the fight was on.

Patria has a new passive radar out. That's great but what happened to the USAF giving us air dominance?

 via Patria Press Release

The passive radar is invisible to the enemy

Patria MUSCL can provide 360-degree surveillance up to hundreds of kilometers away, making it well-suited for air surveillance and border control. Surveillance can also be focused on a specific target to protect critical infrastructure.

– The main advantage of the passive radar system is that it does not produce any signal trace itself. Thus, Patria MUSCL is practically invisible to enemy signal intelligence, says Aaro Malila, Product Manager at Patria.

The signals sent by traditional radars immediately reveal their operation and location to the enemy's electronic surveillance sensors. In the worst case, it can take only a few seconds to locate, after which the enemy can target the radar with electronic jamming or direct fire.

Advanced signal processing detects targets

Patria MUSCL utilizes existing radio signals in the environment for its measurements. Typically, these are broadcast signals from radio or television stations. By using these, the radar can calculate the location and movement of an airborne target by comparing the signals reflected from the target with those that have traveled directly.

The system can simultaneously track over a hundred targets.

– Due to its operating principle and low frequencies, Patria MUSCL has better capabilities to detect stealth targets compared to traditional radar, Malila notes.

The shapes and surfaces of stealth aircraft are designed to scatter the signals of traditional surveillance radars so that they do not return to the radar receiver. In the case of Patria MUSCL, since the radar receivers are located in different places than the transmitters, scattering the reflections away from the transmitter does not provide as much benefit.

– The ability to detect stealth aircraft is improved by the fact that Patria MUSCL also utilizes signals with lower frequencies than traditional radars, Malila explains.

This is all well and good but what happened to the vaunted air dominance that the USAF provided.

Oh and don't be fooled.  The USAF has played a role in killing several US Army anti-air systems.  The reason?  If it flies the USAF would kill it.

I'm sure someone knows the new paradigm cause I don't.

Are ground forces now told to protect themselves from anything below 2K feet to the ground?

If so then what about surface skimming cruise missiles?  Drones I get but the bigger ones that fight at distance fly at the same altitude as jets?  Is there a dedicated aerial platform designed to hunt down loitering drones etc...

Ukraine's Zelensky says he is ready for direct talks with Putin

 via France 24

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview posted Tuesday that he would agree to direct talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin to end almost three years of war.

His comments came amid high anticipation of talks to begin, with Donald Trump -- who has pledged to end the fighting -- back in the White House as the third anniversary of Moscow's invasion approaches.

Here

Ya know what got Zelensky to this point?  First the election of Trump.  No more graft and corruption being hid as aid.  Second was the warning shot of the Trump administration going after USAID.  No more CIA money to back the schemes of the deep state.

So now he's willing to talk peace.

After he's killed a generation of his countrymen in a flawed and badly run war.

This poor bastard was being used from the start, was in over his head at the start and will die not from the Russians but from the Mothers Of Ukraine.

This war will be over before next winter.  The Europeans will not step up to provide the aid that they're used to getting and their industry/economies won't support it if they did try.

What fighting style do you think is most effective. I've always been partial to Thai kickboxing with a solid ground foundation as the perfect mix...

This is a great fight and I wish I caught it live. Hell I don't even know the two fighters but they put on a show. I've always been partial to Thai Kickboxing for stand up fights and with a good foundation in ground fighting I think its the perfect combination. Anyone disagree? Oh and no. All fights DO NOT always end up on the ground.
