The UK bet on the F-35 and lost big....

via The Daily Telegraph.
Britain’s fighter aircraft fleet is set to shrink to its smallest in the RAF’s history as ageing jets retire by the end of the decade, a new analysis warns.
Numbers will be squeezed to only around 127 front line combat jets at best under current plans to retire Britain’s Tornado GR4s and early model Typhoons in 2019, before new F-35 stealth fighters arrive.
Defence chiefs have already warned that the RAF’s fast jet fleet is stretched to the limit and the new analysis from IHS Jane’s warns it is “perverse” to cut numbers further.
The RAF’s 87 remaining Tornados and 53 tranche 1 Typhoons are scheduled to retire in 2019.
By then, only 15 to 20 of the new F-35B jump jets will have arrived according to the analysis. The resulting fleet will be “the lowest number that the RAF will have fielded since its creation in 1918”.
The RAF’s reduced fighter fleet will be made up of technically advanced planes but “no aircraft, no matter how capable, can be in more than one place at any time”, said Gareth Jennings, aviation desk editor at Jane’s.
If that isn't bad enough the 800 pound gorilla in the room is the fact that the F-35 will not deliver the same capability as the planes it will replace.

The good news is that this explains the desperation around the F-35.

Unless they get it into production NOW you'll see air forces around the world bailing.  It also explains why the DoD wants the Super Hornet line shut down.  Defense Ministries are going to have to explain why this new wonder jet is draining coffers.  Alternatives will be sought and the Super Hornet would be at the top of many lists.

The Brits are royally screwed (pun intended).

They're about to go from a first rate air force to has beens all thanks to the idiotic focus on buying the F-35.

Major Phil "Hands" Handley...first supersonic gun kill...to a fighter pilot speed is life!

The "Dog Fights" series is a precious jewel.

They inform the uninformed about military that has been lost.  What has everyone's attention in this episode is Major Phil "Hands" Handley's first and only supersonic gun kill.

The whole vid is worth a watch, but what caught my attention is the battle between the F-86 and Mig-15.

Are we gonna see the future repeat the past?

What I mean is you see historical accounts of Mig's flying high, diving down on F-86's and then zooming back up to height and zooming away.  The Migs got into trouble when they stayed and played OR were ambushed by the F-86's.

Is that how the fight between the F-35 and S-35 play out?

COME ON NAVY! Appearance is important in the Pacific!

Geez!

Some of you guys are gonna go off, but the Navy has to get the look of this ship together.  Call it perception, call it a cultural bias....I really don't care, but the US Navy can't have a warship operating in the Pacific that looks like a bag of ass.

The USS Fort Worth looks like a bag of ass!

Additionally they're talking about having some of these ship forward based in Singapore!

Singapore!

The cleanest freaks in a region of clean freaks!

Its a small thing but the Navy has to get this together.  Public perception of our Navy is gonna take a nose dive because of this.  If you've spent more than 10 minutes in the region then you'll know I'm right.

Square your shit away Navy!

HELL YEAH!  Get some boys!  New Marine Corps in-house motto?....

Primitives in the Middle East were just a warm  up.  The big fight is yet to come...

Chinese Bison (Zubr) Landing Craft in action....via Defence Blog.

More here.

This is just as I imagined.  The Chinese MLP along with the ZUBR landing craft forming an adhoc LST to put heavy armor ashore rapidly.  You see three Chinese MLP's show up .... and if they're able to perfect a type of seabase where they're able to transfer vehicles from transports to the ZUBR's ....then future USMC Company Landing Teams are flying into the jaws of hell.

Sidenote:  China is starting to build these in house.  I patiently await modifications to them.  Could we even see them enlarged?  Also, can anyone identify the tank in the pic?  It doesn't look like a Type 99 and I'm wondering if its the new Light Tank they've put into service.

Rant. Keep your apology....God might forgive but I won't.

WARNING:  Rant follows...slightly politically incorrect...

I've been experiencing a slow rage over the last few days and it comes from the actions of not only a lunatic but their families after their rampages are over.

via Yahoo.
"There are no words to describe our shock, horror, and grief," said the statement, provided to the Associated Press by a lawyer representing the family of Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, who was killed by police. "The person who committed this horrible crime was not the son we knew and loved. For many years, our son suffered from depression. It grieves us beyond belief to know that his pain found its expression in this heinous act of violence."
The family added that they are cooperating with the investigation.
"We understand there are many legitimate questions that need to be answered," the statement said. "Having said this, now is the time to reflect on the victims and their families, and we feel it would be inappropriate to say anything more other than that we are truly sorry for their loss."
This was not the person they knew and loved?  Their son suffered from depression?  HIS PAIN found its EXPRESSION in this heinous act of violence?

EAT SHIT AND DIE!

God might forgive you but I never will.  How did society reach a point where a few useless words are all it takes to turn people away from the reality of situations?

The shooter's family are the same people that paid for his trips to the Middle East.  They're the same people that failed to notify authorities that he had become radicalized.  They're the same people that saw this storm coming and did nothing to stop it.

But now they expect us to believe that they're sorry their animal of a son went on a rampage and shot down good men?

The weird thing?  The God of my belief (embryonic at this stage) might forgive.  Their God is giving the shooter 72 virgins.

Kevin Martin's RIAT 2015 photo essay....

Is this the best anti-sub airplane in service today? The Japanese didn't cut corners on this important function.  I wonder if the US Navy looks jealously at this airplane....

SOUTHPAW movie trailer....I really want to see this movie!

The last movie I looked forward to seeing was American Sniper.  You can take Ant Man and the rest of the stuff Hollywood is pumping out and it just doesn't appeal to me.

Southpaw looks different though.

I really want to see this movie!  Take the time to check out the behind the scenes vid below where they talk about the training Gyllenhaal went thru with his director.

Yeah.  This should be good.

Sidenote:  In the training vid he's wearing one of those air restriction masks.  Ok, whats the deal?  I've been told that they don't work and its like wearing a gas mask that doesn't work.

Note:  USMC Tanks have a serious decision to make soon.  Yeah I'm repeating myself but I don't hear this being debated in any of the journals.  Currently the Corps is operating M1A1's.  The US Army has upgraded to M1A2's and many of our allies are operating 'A2s.  While they Marines could continue to operate the M1A1 model, its place in new operating concepts hasn't been discussed.  Will tanks continue as is with the M1A1?  Will they follow the US Army and upgrade to M1A2 standard?  Is it time to move to a Mobile Gun System and depend on attached Army MBT's for big fights?  Its a debate that must be had....in the open...with all the fussing that goes along with it.
