Open Comment Post. Jan 16, 2018

I guess it finally made it down South.  Jeep Cherokees are all the rage (old style bodies) when it comes to building off road rigs.  I can't imagine why.  They never impressed me when new with their performance in the dirt but now people are scooping them up whenever they can causing what once was a back of the barn sell it for pennies to get rid of it, to balloon in price.

Simply amazing.

I'm waiting for someone to design a portal lift so I can get ground clearance without having to raise the Bronco to the sky and still do 75 on the highway...

Blast from the past (1969)...West German Army testing the Kampfpanzer 70 (MBT 70)....

Note; Sorry for the numerous videos from the Bundeswehr Channel but I just discovered them and I'm really digging some of the stuff from their past.  I'd pay good money for these videos as they are except dubbed in English but beggars can't be choosers!

Blast from the past (1970)...when the West German military practiced amphibious operations!

Turkey says that the Kurdish led and US backed " Border Security Force (BSF)" will lead to an annexed Syria...

via Almasdarnews
The creation of the so-called Border Security Force (BSF) on the Syrian territory controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) may lead to separation of several regions from the territory of the Syrian state, a member of the opposition’s delegation to the Astana talks told Sputnik.

“Currently, the United States may not be aiming to create a new map of Syria, this step [the establishment of a border security force in Syria], however, could encourage such efforts, pursued by separatist forces. So, a new map of Syria may become a reality in future,” Fateh Hassoun said on Monday.
------------------------
On Saturday, the Defense Post news website published an article, in which the spokesman of the US-led coalition fighting against the Daesh terrorist group, said that the coalition was engaged in a training of a 30,000-strong force on the territory within Syria currently controlled by the SDF to maintain security in the area along the Syrian border.

According to the opposition delegate, the Unites States could have created the core of the security force from the Free Syrian Army troops instead of the SDF militias.
Story here.

This is one time when we need Trump to simply blurt out (or Tweet) what the game is here.

We defeated ISIS so I was under the impression that at worst we would see everyone pivot to fighting in Yemen and Syria, Iraq and even the Kurds would be able to start piecing themselves back together.

God knows they've seen enough fighting over the past few years.

But now we have this?

ISIS wasn't the objective.

Regime change in Syria was.

So now that they couldn't topple Assad they're seeking to carve off a few pieces of his country as a plan B.  This is bad JuJu.  I can expect the Turks to charge forward and establish a big ass buffer zone in Northern Syria.  The Russians and Syrians will counter that its unnecessary and counteroffer strikes against the Kurds.  Then US diplomats will fold as will the Pentagon and the Kurds will hate us forever when both those powers start putting them under sustained air and artillery strikes.

The Kurds better think this thru.  They're about to make a terrible mistake.  With Assad they could probably get an autonomous region.  Same with Iraq. If they make this move they might be destroyed entirely.

Sidenote;  I wonder if all this could have been avoided if Assad had simply said yes when a proposal for a pipeline was presented to him?

One headline sums up my Sunday...

The Steelers get knocked off by some scrubs from Jacksonville?  Okay.  Bad Sunday but the Saints will pull it off right?  Wrong.  First they fall behind...bad!  Then they claw back into the fight, have the lead with 10 seconds left and the Vikings are backed up, have one play left for a hail Mary that we all know will fail and what the fuck happens?

Divine intervention from a God I've obviously pissed off royally has those  fuckers winning the game.

THAT IS WHY THERE IS NO OPEN COMMENT!

I bet half the bastards in my community are Vikings fans.  To that half I say this.  FUCK YOU ALL!

This dude went from Tanker to Grunt in one battle and won the Medal Of Honor for his actions!

via War History Online.
Arthur O. Beyer (1909-1965) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the Medal of Honor - for his actions in World War II taken on January 15, 1945. Citation:
He displayed conspicuous gallantry in action. His platoon, in which he was a tank-destroyer gunner, was held up by antitank, machinegun, and rifle fire from enemy troops dug in along a ridge about 200 yards to the front. Noting a machinegun position in this defense line, he fired upon it with his 76-mm. gun killing 1 man and silencing the weapon. He dismounted from his vehicle and, under direct enemy observation, crossed open ground to capture the 2 remaining members of the crew. Another machinegun, about 250 yards to the left, continued to fire on him. Through withering fire, he advanced on the position. Throwing a grenade into the emplacement, he killed 1 crewmember and again captured the 2 survivors. He was subjected to concentrated small-arms fire but, with great bravery, he worked his way a quarter mile along the ridge, attacking hostile soldiers in their foxholes with his carbine and grenades. When he had completed his self-imposed mission against powerful German forces, he had destroyed 2 machinegun positions, killed 8 of the enemy and captured 18 prisoners, including 2 bazooka teams. Cpl. Beyer’s intrepid action and unflinching determination to close with and destroy the enemy eliminated the German defense line and enabled his task force to gain its objective.
Pure dee stud and a one man wrecking crew!

That boneyards "stealthy" F-18 concept was really the Son of BlackBird!

Thanks to Super Rhino for the link!

Remember Tyler's article when he was writing for FoxTrot Alpha (when they were good and worthy of being on your daily reading list)?

Well looks like Tyler and me (because I agreed with his analysis) were completely off.  We thought it was a stealthy Super Hornet concept that was thrown into the boneyard.

In hindsight its apparent that this was an early Son of BlackBird model.

Of course this also means that the timeline of development that they announced is complete bullshit and that they're MUCH further down the road of development than they're letting on.

It's to be expected in programs like this that straddle the line between open and secret so no foul there.

But one thing.

We're all sure that we have the Aurora project up and going.  Where does this fit into the grand scheme of things?
