Interesting.  Wonder why the West can't build a C-130 sized helicopter?  The Russians have cracked the code and supposedly we have the lead in engine tech.

Even with the arrival of the CH-53K the legacy Mi-26 can outlift it (don't know about the range with max load but GAR9 can hash that out for you).

Blast from past. Force Protection Timberwolf...

How many of ya'll remember this beast from the now dead Force Protection Company?  No lie, I kinda liked it.  The Canadians moved forward with the offering from Textron which I like too but to this very day I have trouble understanding this requirement...

Is this politics or reality? 25 FBI/Justice Dept officials have been fired in relation to the "Russia Meddling In Our Election" investigation???

via The Epoch Times.
FBI agent Peter Strzok was finally fired Aug. 10 after more than a year of intrigue surrounding his bias against President Donald Trump.

He joins more than two dozen other top FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) officials who have been fired, demoted, or resigned in the wake of investigations of the 2016 presidential election—in yet another confirmation that the DOJ/FBI swamp is being drained.

The once-respected Federal Bureau of Investigation was compromised by politically motivated insiders, including James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Strzok, and many others. As more evidence of corruption comes to light, their schemes have rapidly begun to unravel. Such schemes included the exoneration of Hillary Clinton for her illegal email practices, the stonewalling of the separate investigation of the Clinton Foundation relating to Uranium One, and the FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) investigation of Trump associates that’s known as “Spygate.”
Story here.

Read the whole thing for yourself and yes I know its dripping with Republican/Trump talking points but is this true?

If this is reality and not simply politics then we're looking at an organization that has been compromised beyond description.

Quite honestly we're facing a much bigger threat to our democracy than the Russians putting a few ads on Facebook/YouTube/Forums...we're looking at the premier law enforcement agency in the US turning rogue.

In essence they've tried to change govt by means of their law enforcement powers.

THAT IS A TRUE THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!

You want to talk about banana republic activities?  You want to talk about an authoritarian govt?

If the FBI has seen this many people fired/resigned because of this then they're out of control and need to be disbanded or seriously reformed...if they can go after the President and get as much traction as they've gotten then they could literally send anyone to jail for life on trumped up (pun intended) charges.

Jesus! Hippos can move!

I NEVER KNEW THEY WERE THAT FAST!  That's in the water too!  GEEZ!

Even James Clapper takes a swipe at Brennan...

via Daily Caller.
James Clapper, the director of national intelligence under former President Barack Obama, took a swipe at former CIA Director John Brennan on Sunday, saying that his former colleague’s anti-Trump rhetoric has become “an issue in and of itself.”

“Do you think that John Brennan’s hyperbole is an issue here, is one of the reasons we’re having this crisis?” CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Clapper during a panel discussion about President Donald Trump’s decision to revoke Brennan’s security clearance.

“I think it is,” said Clapper, a CNN analyst. “John is sort of like a freight train and he’s gonna say what’s on his mind.”

“John and his rhetoric have become an issue in and of itself,” he added.
Story here.

I've heard all the critics yelling that Brennan deserves to keep his security clearance but ya know what those critics are forgetting?

They get to keep it but its dependent on them maintaining the same behavior they held when they were in office.

In essence they must be apolitical.

Brennan was anything but and became a freaking mess.  He was stupid and stupid tax had to be paid, hence he lost his clearance.

Even more?

If Clapper knows that then so do the rest of the minions inside the Beltway.

This is actually a neat solution.  Evolution in armor has stagnated but you can actually FEEL new concepts being tried worldwide.  It might be a marriage between old hulls and new turrets, increased optics/sensors, etc...but you're gonna see new stuff rolled out.

It's past time!

The emphasis on air has reached a point where ground forces will be better able to defend themselves (because that emphasis pushed more effective countermeasures).  That makes armor the new hotness if you're gonna actually maneuver in the future.  Having your assault helicopter lazed out of the sky just as its approaching an LZ is not optimal!

You want more info on this interceptor?  Talk to my readers.  I never even knew this existed!  Loadout seems to be pretty heavy from some of their statements in the "Open Comments" section of the blog and I'm guessing it was designed to be a long range killer of stealth bombers but that's my take.

Workout Tip. Ginger everyday to deal with muscle soreness???

Ginger?

It can actually deal with muscle soreness?  Never would have thought!  Dude is right though.  I know I've made a HARD TURN from heavy weights to SUPER VOLUME workouts...in essence I'm chasing pumps and honestly I like it.  Joint pain is MUCH LESS but muscle soreness is way up.

I'm gonna give it a try.

Anyone here take ginger?  Does it work as good as this bubba is saying???

A New Way to Wage a Ground War: The Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle

via National Interest.
But what’s driving these trends for these heavier and heavier IFVs? The tactical mobility and speed advantages that originally characterized the IFV no longer apply to these new vehicles, as they lumber along at the same speed as tanks and aren’t amphibious.

One possible reason is an arms versus armor race with IFVs. IFVs are often expected to fight other IFVs, so the weight of the armor on them has gone up as the caliber of IFV weapons has increased. The current M2A3 Bradley is protected against the BMP-2’s thirty millimeter cannon on the frontal arc, while the original M2 Bradley was only protected against a BTR’s 14.5mm heavy machine gun.

Another possible reason is a shift towards COIN. In COIN mitigating casualties is more important than speed or tactical mobility, so there’s a high incentive to armor up existing platforms. While IFVs were originally designed to fight infantry from outside of the range of shoulder launched AT weapons like the RPG, COIN can push them into those tight engagements with infantry so armor is  becoming more important. The overall downsizing of militaries also makes it cheaper to procure such heavy (and expensive) IFVs, as most militaries no longer need to field multiple divisions worth of them.
Story here.

Tons of my blog posts are disjointed, hard to read etc...So when I say that about someone else's writing then you know its pretty jacked up.

This article is pretty jacked up.

But ignore that and muddle thru it all.

What's my take?

They got it wrong.  First they appear to classify the upgraded Bradley in the heavy IFV category.  I disagree.  Its Medium Tank sized, but doesn't qualify as a heavy IFV.

In my way of thinking there are only two heavy IFVs.  The Israeli Namer and the Russian T-15.  Full stop.  There are no others.

I posted the excerpt above because I wanted to highlight one thing.  Their conclusion is wrong too.

This evolution has nothing to do with counterinsurgency warfare.  It has EVERYTHING to do with urban combat.  RPGs can be defeated with a variety of systems.  That threat alone didn't push the heavy IFV to the forefront.  Additionally the IED threat is better dealt with by other vehicles.

So why the heavy IFV?

For Russia it was Grozny and for the Israelis the Gaza Strip fighting.

Heavy IFVs are essential if you're gonna fight in tight, built up areas...instead of by passing these graveyards for divisions, military planners are thinking about heading straight in because that's where the "human" capital resides.

It's batshit crazy but there you have it.

So what happens when you fight in narrow streets with tall buildings on all sides, with sewers underneath the street...essentially facing a 3d fight?

You've taken maneuver off the table.

You've limited your own firepower (depending on the elevation of your guns).

You have no speed.

So you're left with armor to make up for the deficits that you chose to saddle yourself with for fighting in a stupid location.

As far as the "arms race" we're seeing in armor?  Again it was to be expected but I don't believe has any influence on the "heavy IFV" becoming a thing.

Anti-tank missiles are everywhere and heavy anti-tank missiles are carried by vehicles that were once considered utility but are now called full on combat capable.

One last thing.

Spare me with the idiocy of calling modern tanks the new mediums.  They're Main Battle Tanks because planners did away with Lights and Mediums!  Everyone operating a so called MBT is in essence operating a heavy!  Over 60 tons?  You're in the heavy class.  Deal with the reality boys!
