ARCHER wheeled howitzer offered for U.S. Army's 155 mm gun system

 via Press Release

BAE Systems is offering ARCHER for participation in the Army’s plans to conduct a “shoot off” evaluation early next year at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. The Army’s RFP, released on July 30, looks to evaluate mobile howitzers in support of future Army requirements. ARCHER is already in service with the Swedish Army with the highest technical and manufacturing readiness levels.

“ARCHER is a mature, proven system that can quickly get into the fight and strike enemy targets at long ranges, with a high rate of fire and very fast displacement times, and is made for combat against large power adversaries,” said Chris King, director of business development at BAE Systems. “With a fully automated system, soldiers can execute their mission with minimal physical exertion and time, while remaining under cover in the armored cabin. The cab protection, fast shoot and scoot times and its extended range all enhance survivability and sustain fire support in harsh combat conditions.”

ARCHER brings a single, fielded package of capabilities that would provide U.S. soldiers with responsiveness and flexibility that far exceed current capabilities. ARCHER is typically operated by a crew of three to four soldiers but can be operated by only one.

ARCHER can fire within 30 seconds of receiving an order. It can then depart its firing position within 30 seconds, minimizing the enemy’s ability to effectively return fire. Its magazine carries 21 rounds and can unload all of them in less than three minutes. ARCHER can fire the BONUS anti-armor munition up to 35 km, conventional munitions up to 40 km, and currently fielded precision-guided munitions like Excalibur in excess of 50 km. BONUS and Excalibur are currently in the U.S. Army’s inventory.

ARCHER is manufactured by BAE Systems Bofors, which is based in Karlskoga, Sweden.

This is the beauty in what the Army is doing.

Instead of going for a massive transformation, they're evolving their force. What does that bring?  It brings speed.  It brings unity of purpose and a lack of confusion/friction/exhaustion to their force.

State Of Emergency and no public gatherings in Thailand, yet we see this...

This could get ugly.

The Thai military can be brutal if ordered.

This bears watching.

We don't bunch up like these guys but we still present a thermal signature...how do you fix that?

We don't bunch up.  But even if you're dispersed you still present a thermal signature.  How do you fix that?  We can't walk around in foil uniforms, so the solution is basic.

You kill the drone before the drone kills you (either by direct fire or registering your position to other shooters).

Unfortunately that's the rub isn't it.

Everything is oriented toward killing big drones or if its made to kill small ones then it will be after they've detected your forces.

We need a good medium weight/range option that can protect the force from small/med drones and kill them before they can locate our forces.

Now that leaves one last question.

Whose job is that?  Air Arms or Ground Forces?

AH-1W "Whiskey" Sundown

The new "Force Company" in 2nd LAR....

So now we get an explanation.

It rings more as an experiment headed toward what I've been predicting.  A totally different LAR than the one we all know.

I appreciate this vid but it doesn't change my mind.  LAR is soon to be aviation based is my guess.  As an interim solution it will transition to being a JLTV type setup with numerous UAVs attached.

Soon enough it will be the home of the Predator UAVs and will be in the "ground commanders" hip pocket so that he has battlefield intel.

It'll all be a lie but that's how they'll sell it.

As far as Force Company?  Nothing else makes sense.  They're selling a bill of goods.

The Hulk is a Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy!?!

Two things.

1st. He got small.

2nd. Those roids did a number to his dome.

Otherwise it looks like a VERY interesting move.  Wonder what drug him into the job?  Surely he's still getting royalties from the TV show even if he didn't make  much money during the silver age of bodybuilding.
