So Japan is buying 4 F-35's and 38 (or more) later.  More stuff you won't hear in the mainstream defense media.

  1. Sweet! I've said it before and I'll say it again. I won't be surprised if they end up with some F-35Bs as well.

  2. agreed. i think the outlier is gonna be the F-35C. the F-35A and F-35B wil both sell more than the C model.

and it will go on to do exactly what its designers envisioned...be the backbone of allied air forces world wide.

  3. The Navy very well might buy even more C's eventually to also replace the F-18 E/Fs as they age, either as gapfillers for the F-18/F replacement or the replacement itself. Wait until they get it into the fleet and find what a real LO airplane with legs can do. they'll discover new and interesting ways to operate the C that will shame the Superbug.

  4. i think the 35B is perfect for the pacific theater if conflict is to break out. Not only will it work on amphibs but with all the islands there the B is suited very well to make shift runways that other fighters can not fight from, and we know if China was to ever launch a preemptive strike, it will be at our airfields, being able to set up rapid airfields and take off short and land vertically while defending airspace will be a huge advantage. remember how necessary henderson field was to Guadalcanal!
