China acquires the Zubar Air Cushion Landing Craft.

Chinese Military Review is reporting that Ukraine transferred to the Chinese Navy a ZUBAR Air Cushion Landing Craft.  Unlike US and Allied air cushion vehicles, the Zubar is large and capable of traveling long distances while carrying an impressive load of men and vehicles.  An attack on Taiwan just got easier.

    1. Landing craft would enter the scene once most of opposition is wiped out ,altough China invading China(Taiwan) is very unlikely ,in the event of events its likely China would have local supporters(some politcians are already getting cozy with the chinese) making defense even harder. Unlike most osther landing craft Zubr packs 2 30mm gatlings(CIWS) ,airdefence miissles and a couple of grad launchers to soften up the landing zone

    2. If there is no opposition then there is no need for landing craft, just use a port.
The GMLRS+ could be hiding out anywhere within 75km of the coast and be able to take out the landing craft. FOs could designate the target from hidden locations. Multiple GMLRS+ missiles could be launched to arrive simultaneously to overwhelm the CIWS. Local jamming could also degrade the CIWS radar to allow more through. Each GMLRS+ is a 200lb warhead.

Taiwan has been building up its indigenous MLRS forces specifically in response to China’s emerging amphibious assault forces. GMLRS+ would just add a Precision Attack component to its existing systems.

    3. Amphibious assaults have allways been done in least defended coasts and at minimum risk if posiblle. I am just sayin ZUBR is far better than any US or European landing craft that offer less capacity, speed, protection and yet are still used as mainstay off amphibious forces.

    4. Due to the 120KM range of the GMLRS+, roving groups of launchers based in the center of the country (and safe from attacks on the beach or fixed defenses) could cover every square foot of beach on the island. The spotter could be a drone, fixed designator, or hidden FO anywhere within sight of the beach and any landing craft are toast.

This is simplistic obviously, but it shows the accuracy, deadliness, and pure folly of trying an amphibious assault when the target has heavyweight precision attack munitions.

btw, The US does not use this class of craft because it does not need to. The Russians designed it to enable it to fight it's way to the beach. The US has overwhelming air-power and does not have to fight it's way in.

    5. yes we have seen how effective airpower is in real terms ,way off of what it promises on paper, it took someting like 80days off Allied bombing in Serbia to break them and i wasn't the millitary that broke it actualy suffered very few losses ,it was damage to vital civilian infrastructure. And till the end airspace was not premissive bellow 10.000 feet. And that was like all US wars a war against a tiny opponent not a mayor power

    6. Well said, Mr T. Spudman is hearing what he wants to hear.

  3. And it's ZUBR ( Żubr - European bison ) not ZUBAR.

  4. While it could be used in a Taiwan Scenario it's far more likely to be used in the myriad disputes over small islands in and around the South China Sea.
