Well its official...with a bay as small as that it is not an deep strike/interdition aircraft... Is it an interceptor/AWACS killer or a true air superiority fighter?
good point. its also carrying long range missiles. as a matter of fact all the bays seem to hold what we would call heavy weight anti-air missiles. i'm betting more and more on an AWACs killer.
uh, you're kidding right? the US is suppose to be developing a missile...well actually Lockheed Martin is developing the CUDA that is half the size of the AMRAAM and is suppose to have greater distance and equal the hitting power. since China has stolen everything else i think its safe to say that they have the keys to that too. add to it that they depend on Russian tech for their missiles and the Russians have this requirement and have been leaders in the missile field...even ahead of the west.
so for you to take a cursory glance and declare that this is not an AWACs killer is just plain crazy. we see two large missiles at least the size of AMRAAM probably larger and you're saying that they're not AWACs killers?????
"its also carrying long range missiles. as a matter of fact all the bays seem to hold what we would call heavy weight anti-air missiles. i'm betting more and more on an AWACs killer."
You were basing that on what you thought were large sized missiles. I was just showing you that the missile is no larger than their current medium ranged missile, the PL-12.
In nobody's world would a PL-12 be called a "heavy weight missile".
now i know why i respond to so few of your posts. you don't know when to just say..yeah i was wrong. the missile without fins is obviously larger in diameter.
Well considering that the primary bay is on the order of 14-15ft long and the side bays are roughly 2/3rds of that, it is unlikely that the side bays are going to hold an AMRAAM or PL-12 sized missile that is 12-13ft long.
The primary bay appears to be sized to hold PL-12 length missiles (12.63ft) which are slightly longer than AMRAAM (12 ft). So the side bays are going to be roughly 8-9 ft
Looks like flying brick with wings...

DeleteThat's not a new Anti-AWACs missile, or any other long range missile. It's basically a clipped wing PL-12 (in size).
ReplyDeleteHere is a comparison of a J-11 carrying both a PL-12 and this rarely seen missile on the same pylon from the same angle.
You can find the comparison here.
say again....that is so darn confusing its beyond belief. are you saying that its a PL-12 or not.
DeleteIt's not a PL-12, but it is the same length and diameter of a PL-12.
ReplyDeleteAnti-AWACs missiles are very large and very long. This is neither.
Editied Comparison HERE

WOW!

take another look. those are large missiles...especially the one that's fin less.
DeleteThey are both the same missile, just one does not have fins.
DeleteHere is a better view of the bay & missiles

DeleteCount the pixels like I just did.... same diameter.
Deletei'm done. you're smoking crack and don't know when to say when.
DeleteYou just said it twice, one for both of us ;)
DeleteJust wanted to confirm, are their side internal missile racks like the F-22, or does the J-20 just have rack on the bottom?
ReplyDeleteyeah it has side bays...from what i can tell they're able to hold amraam sized missiles too but on this i'm less sure.
