Chinese Z-19. Copying Japan's OH-1 this time via Alert 5.

The first pic is of the Z-19.  The second and third are of the Japanese OH-1.  Note that the Japanese OH-1 came into service many years before the Z-19 and also note that gunship versions have been proposed ever since the type entered service.

The Chinese have no shame, will copy anyone and its obvious that export controls aren't working and unfettered free trade is only strengthening their military.  The only bright spot is that the globalization scheme is already unraveling.  Without it, China goes back to being a third rate power.

  1. No need to copy Chinese have a licence for Dauphin ,Z-19 uses much of the same parts(tail, fenestron, rotor powerpack transmition etc. only the forward half of fuselage is new ,here form follows function in much the same way as Cobra first evolved from Huey. Its kind of natural chice to go for a tandem cockpit for ligth attac and recce chopper. In ths respect kiowa is quite an old fashioned design.

  2. PRoC have been copying, illegally, since the 1980's. And who's going to go after them? US? I doubt it. US copywrite infringement police will go anyone they know they can WIN. If they go up against China, they can't win. I mean they might win in COURT but in the long term the business might pay a lot doing business in China.

This is one thing I don't understand the Russians. The Russians know full well the skills the Chinese have in reverse engineering but yet they are willing to sell them equipment. Once China makes a clone, China then sells them in direct competition against the Russian category.

Help me out here. What is the benefit of Russia to sell the Chinese equipment that Russia will soon compete (and loose) in the international market?

    1. I think Russians understand that reverse engineering only brings you that far and they are selling stuff 3+ decades old . Its easy for people that have never done any engineering work to mouth off about copying . Without intimate knowledge of science and development behind it you might not be able to revers engineer even if you get plans for it . Example US bought russian rocket engines and tried to reverse engineer and built them they never managed engines keept blowing up or failing to deliver the power they should and these engines wee at least decade old when US started using them it is just a field of tech where USSR was decades ahead of US and you can try reverse engineer all you want ,same goes for zvezda ejection seats that are unmatched .Before you start slaming me read about RD170-180 (US bough plans and rights to manufacture but failed to make one work) Same for Zvezda ejection seats ,US bought them and Russians even designed Westernised versions .
