CH-53K close to first flight.

In January 2014, Sikorsky powered 'on' the three GE 7,500 shaft horsepower class engines of the first CH-53K heavy lift helicopter prototype - known as the Ground Test Vehicle - and spun the rotor head without rotor blades. The event continues safety-of-flight tests started in December with pilots at the aircraft's controls. The Ground Test Vehicle is anchored to the ground at Sikorsky's West Palm Beach, Development Flight Center in Florida.   1. This will be an awesome aircraft - much different than the echo. And much more useful/versatile than MV-22s. But it is expensive...

  2. seems like they have a a/c unit hooked up to let the people inside enjoy themselves hahaha, or incase they have some co2 issue??

    but it looks so damn sexy!!! thats a good looking bird and well worth the cost, unlike the MV-22

  4. those are cooling hoses, civ airliners use them to keep the aircraft warm or cold (season depending) they probably dont have the climate control systems hooked up (just guessing).

  5. What will be the big advantage of a CH-53K against CH-47F.
    Price for Super Stallion is about three times as high compared to Chinook.

    1. quite honestly.....nothing. they state that it has deep penetration capabilities but thats thw mv-22s job. heavy lift is a sometimes need and super heavy lift even less frequently.

      if we were honest and considering all the v-22s we have we should probably can the project...if we were being honest.

    2. Solomon, have you ever read the book "Dream Machine".

      It explains the history of the V-22, and why the USMC demanded it.

      Basically, they got terrified of another Operation Eagle claw fiasco and wanted the V-22s capabilites

  6. Just combine heavy and medium vertical lift requirements. Cancel the big dog and buy more MV-22 instead.
