Why does it seem like the US in retreat?

I don't usually buy into conservative memes when it comes to the current President.  They're overly simplistic, fail to take into account real world realities and many seemed tinged with more than a bit of racism (yeah, I've seen some downright obscene photoshops...stuff that would make a Klansman blush).

Having said all that, it does seem like we're in retreat worldwide.  Now we're evacuating Yemen?  At the hour of their greatest need we withdraw?

The optics on this are terrible.

We're fickle partners at best and at worst we'll leave you high and dry after you put it all on the line for us (and Yemen did that).

  1. There seems to be an awful lot of bad judgement involved in it all.. the US Pres seems to make an effort of playing up to enemies who will always despise you.. while abandoning allies who have made sacrifices to support you..

Meanwhile supporting people like the Syrian 'rebels' at the cost of strengthening enemies.

I personally don't see it as intentional, just horribly incompetent and idealistic.

    I'm not a US citizen.

  2. It is not bad judgement, it is not a mistake, it is not accidental.

Obama is the real deal he is a hardcore raised indoctrinated from birth into ardent modern liberalism ideology. Bottom line is he is doing just what he intends and if anyone cared to actually research what he surrounded himself with and from time to time wrote down or said publicly it would not be a surprise.

    Bask in it.

Racism is such a cheep played out card thrown around like a get out of jail free card by so many minorities when they get hemmed in. Just keep saying that what the problem is its those pesky whites, conservatives, bible holding gun people, neocons, warmongers, baby killers, and jews and etc....fault

  6. "We're fickle partners at best and at worst we'll leave you high and dry after you put it all on the line for us." I believe the Polish foreign minister said just that "It is downright harmful, (Alliance with the US) because it creates a false sense of security ... Complete bullshit. We'll get in conflict with the Germans, Russians and we'll think that everything is super, because we gave the Americans a blow job. Losers. Complete losers."

  7. It seems like the US is in retreat because we are in retreat. Your eyes and your mind are accurately assessing the situation. It is just hard to process, like walking into your living room and finding a bright purple elephant. Don't give up the blog, we would miss you terribly!

  8. If America is to restore international credibility, POTUS can't get out of office fast enough. Since that won't happen for a while yet; there's really no telling how much worse this can get. Messrs Obama and Kerry and Co. definitely have an inverse Midas effect. All the world can do is wait it out.

  9. Retreat, withdrawal, disengagement call it whatever. Any logical mind would also not want to get involved in Yemeni affairs. Let the domestic population show some inkling of an effort to improve their lot rather than chew those godawfull leaves that they chew all day and sit on their lazy asses. Yemen isnt worth fighting for if you are a foreign power. This country would later on count as one of those countries who would never appreciate outside support despite getting billions and Divisions worth of men. Their capital city Sanaa is an ecological disaster. The whole country is in a Water peril because they keep diverting all precious water to make those Chewable leaves (i keep forgetting that name) which they chew all day and remain on a High. Seeing that the US is still in a lot of debt and that too to a country which can be described as a very bad loan shark (China), the US must to a course correction and see which one of their allies do they really need and can support. Those type of countries that actually want to improve their lot in the globe. Countries like Yemen hold no advantage. Just a black hole for more money and useless political patronage.

  10. Sol Yemen is NOT our fault for a few enormous reasons. First of all it is a fake country. It is a tribal culture that was only unified in the 90s under a dictator. Yemen has two exports. Khat that gets people high, and oil. Unfortunately for them their oil production is in collapse (they were never a large producer and now even that is running out). http://www.eia.gov/countries/cab.cfm?fips=ym Look at the chart on production. Secondly they are running out of water http://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/139596/adam-heffez/how-yemen-chewed-itself-dry Unlike the other Arab countries, they cannot afford desalinisation plants. Long term this place is completely screwed. I actually think it could get a decent amount worse, and if you believe (which I do) that eventually battery powered cars will overtake gasoline cars then this could be the future of all of the oil producing Middle Eastern states.

  11. i'm not talking about the creation of the country, its resources or its long term viability.

i am talking about a govt that went all in with the US and provided bases, intelligence etc in our fight against terrorist. that govt is in trouble and we're pulling out.

i'm not saying nation build, but i am saying that just leaving and saying fuck you doesn't seem right either. you haven't heard about any major US projects in that country, you haven't heard about any huge aid packages...all you've heard is the US using the hell out of those people to meet its agenda...

  12. Another quick thought. Obama's mistake is continually over promising by trying to pretend that we can drag these idiots into the 21st century. Take a step back and look at how things have gotten worse and worse in terms of violence and extremism in the Middle East over the last few decades. People who blame us are completely missing the picture. There is a battle for the soul of Islam right now, and the people who are fighting hardest and want to win the most are the radicals. Until that changes I don't think there's much we can do.

  13. The government was always a house of cards. They never even pretended to have control over most of the country, and without oil money to buy the tribes off things were never even remotely stable. Honestly what can we do? The simple fact is the guy we like has little popular support and has been run out of the capital.

That was my exact thoughts when I read this paragraph.

The true solution is deporting every third worlder since the Kennedy 65 immigration act. And repealing it.
