The world’s largest floating drydock PD-50 sank during the repair of aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov

The world’s largest floating drydock PD-50 sank during the repair of aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, and caused two cranes to collapse, one of them on the deck of the carrier.

Wow.  Twitter is burning up with this news.  Many will see it as a loss.  Personally I view it as a way out for the Russian Navy.  Just toss that ship.  It's eating up resources and its past time for new designs.

They should have started work on an LHD for power projection, they have some frigates that can provide good air defense and they always seem to operate within distance of land bases so no need to transport fast air.

Use the LHD for power projection.  Get your surface fleet together minus a big carrier.

Why they're continuing to push this old hag is beyond me but they have designs ready to go if they'd only LET THIS GO!

If they follow my simple advice they'd be more capable, effective and save money to boot.

So that means that they'll refloat her, repair her and start the cycle all over again.  Putin can't be paying attention to this or going by his reputation he would have sacked a couple admirals and done this himself.
