Is there an internal battle over Iran within the Trump admin?

via Military Times.com
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday that the Trump administration is ready for unconditional discussions with Iran in an effort to ease rising tensions that have sparked fears of conflict. But the United States will not relent in trying to pressure the Islamic Republic to change its behavior in the Middle East, America’s top diplomat said.

Pompeo repeated long-standing U.S. accusations that Iran is bent on destabilizing the region, but he also held out the possibility of talks as President Donald Trump has suggested. While the offer may not pan out, Pompeo made it during a visit to Switzerland, the country that long has represented American interests in Iran, as part of a European trip aimed at assuring wary leaders that the U.S. is not eager for war.

“We’re prepared to engage in a conversation with no preconditions,” Pompeo told reporters at a news conference with his Swiss counterpart. “We’re ready to sit down with them, but the American effort to fundamentally reverse the malign activity of this Islamic Republic, this revolutionary force, is going to continue.”
Story here.

I've listed a cabal that I believe form the deep state within the US govt.  Those forces include Democrats, Neo-Cons, so called Republican Party leadership, the media and certain bureaucrats.

The most dangerous of this group?

In my opinion the Neo-Cons.

Why?

Because they lust for power (well they all do) but the Neo-Cons have flexed/morphed themselves to appear as if they support the current administration's policies while pushing the same old song and dance that has our military stretched to the breaking point.

Fortunately the most prominent of them appear to be getting crushed in the latest internal battles inside the Trump admin.

John Bolton has been banging the war drums with Iran for the past month or more.  Unfortunately it appears that JCS Chairman General Dunford is also pounding those same drums.

But despite limited troop movements (I had heard reports that up to 10k could be heading to the Gulf) numbering a few planes, ships and soldiers we've seen serious attempts by the President AND SecState to lower the rhetoric and the tensions.

Even better?

We've gotten the same signals from Iran.

Was the raising of tensions justifiable?  I don't know.  We don't have visibility on the intel that they're claiming.

What I do know is this.

We don't need to start another fight in a region being wrecked by war already. Oh and make no mistake about it.  The fighting we're seeing there currently IS A REGIONAL WAR!

I don't need this admin to be peacekeepers.  I just need them to not blunder into another fight.
