Thought about this for awhile and it all comes back to money. Any type of independence whether financial, spiritual or physical makes you less reliant on the system...in other words our economic system will suffer because you need less stuff. Whether drugs for the physical (legal or illegal). Financial because you aren't chasing the latest and greatest getting in debt up to your eyeballs or spiritual which means you aren't going to psychologist, donating like crazy to some bastard of a pastor/priest or wrapped up in a cause that is making those at the top crazy rich then your fortitude is a threat.
I can't think of anything else that makes sense but I'm biased as hell. I'd really like some input on this one.
