China isn't testing a rail gun. They're testing a COIL GUN!!!
Ok. All the science geeks in my audience (and I say that with the utmost respect) need to step up hard for me on this one.
I got a note from a reader saying that this isn't a rail gun that's being tested but the mythical COIL GUN that can launch projectiles at MUCH HIGHER SPEED than a rail gun could ever achieve.

Hi Solomon. I have some good news and some bad news.If he's right and this is a coil gun then we're in huge trouble. I'm a pure noob on this subject so you guys WITH REAL KNOWLEDGE weigh in.
First, I think the cant is that this isn't actually a railgun, but instead a coil gun, or a Gauss gun if you want to get fancy. The reason is the circular design; American railguns in comparison tend to be more longitudinal, since they use rails to propel the projectile. The good news is that real coil guns tend to have far inferior performance in comparison to railguns; it seems it's quite hard to directly propel a projectile using a coil gun at high speeds, although on the plus side, they are less technically challenging in a materials sense--a railgun will break apart after a few shots, while a coilgun transfers the force more efficiently.
The bad news is that coilguns have higher theoretical velocities than railguns. If the Chinese have managed to achieve something close to the theoretical maximums, then not only are they ahead in development and deployment, they're also ahead in actual performance; the highest recorded coilgun speed, although built as a single-shot project, was Mach 25.

I have one prayer for those that pushed for this women in combat meme.
I hope their daughters get to experience what they fought so hard for....but in the end does it really matter? The issue has been settled. The only question left is whether or not this is the future fate of our female Marines in the infantry. Correction. It's not a matter of "if"...it's a matter of when.

I've been a bit surprised, amazed and now curious.
The pushback against the Nunes memo has been beyond intense and everyone is forgetting the reality of this situation.
Yeah Nunes is an idiot.
But Ryan, Graham and others are not. And they've all said that they've seen information that indicates a crime was committed. Additionally the Democrats have gone batshit stupid in trying to put down the memo and the FBI is acting almost as bad.
I've never seen the Bureau in this kind of panic before.
The closest I've seen any Federal Law Enforcement Agency engaged in this kind of fetal position/woe is me/we're about to get our nuts crushed is the ATF after the Branch Davidian cluster.
I considered this all a show before. Now? Now I can't wait to read what's in this thing.

The Navy is looking for a new Frigate. Navy Recognition has all the contenders covered!
The Squiddies in the audience have been talking about the search for a new Frigate and I felt a need to get a little knowledge about the challenges, desires of the Navy and the offerings from industry.
A quick Google wasn't gonna cut it, but luckily the boys over at Naval Recognition have a primer on whats being offered.
I'm really torn between the Navantia F-100 Class and the Fincantieri FREMM with a nod (at least till I know more) going toward the F-100.

I love the gun community and then I hate it. Why? Because while everyone is hardcore about standing up for our rights (and that's a good thing), we seem to always fall victim to the latest thing.

For some unknown reason the latest "hotness" is carrying an SBR or AR Pistol in a backpack/sling bag.
The guy in the vid is talking about how he did secret squirrel (I'm assuming) work and how he needed to blend in on missions but for some reason this is being shopped to the civilian market.
Everyone has the freedom to choose. Everyone has the right to spend their money on whatever.
But dude!
If you need to carry an SBR or AR Pistol in your backpack when you go out and about then you need to MOVE!
