China just launched its 10th Type 52D...that's this year...

Hmm. If this was only about regional superiority they could stop now. But we all know its not. China is building a global fleet. They're dipping their toes in the water now but will soon take the plunge I think.
When was the last time the US faced a global fleet that could rival our own?
I believe it was during WW2.
The Japanese had a fleet (at least in the first few years) that was as good as and as technologically advanced as our own.
Since then our Navy has had unparalleled supremacy on the high seas. Additionally since WW2 our Navy has played the supporting role in all of our actions. From preparations for the Cold War going hot, to Vietnam, the wars in the Middle East etc...
It will take a new mindset to have the supporting become the supported. But that's just a minor challenge if we're going to succeed against the Chinese juggernaut.

Note. Have you been keeping up with this thing? Russia is the headliner, but China seems to be the "muscle" behind this thing. Don't know if I'm reading this right but Russia seems to be well versed in hording their resources and letting others do the lifting. China gets what it wants. A bigger seat at the table of the mess that is the Middle East. Additionally they get to poke the US by this action (also remember that the US struck Iranian sites in Iraq today), the Iranians get to show that they have the support of major league powers (in this case Russia and China)...all three walk away happy and Russia got it all without a big investment of resources. Damn near brilliant. Tell me where I'm wrong.

For me, a former enlisted Marine rifleman who served in Afghanistan in 2008, 2009 and 2010, watching the national-security intelligentsia reckon with their careers, and where they contributed to the quagmire in which the United States now finds itself, reminds me of a Pentagon press-conference transcript from March 2010. I don’t remember how I found it or really why I was looking for it at all. The presenter was Brig. Gen. Lawrence Nicholson, the commander of the Marine Corps’s Second Marine Expeditionary Brigade, then the highest ranking officer in charge of the operation in which I participated in the winter of 2010: the battle to retake the town of Marja in southern Helmand Province from the Taliban. In its briefings, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said that the mission, known as Operation Moshtarak, or “together” in Dari, was “Afghan-led.” This was, and remains, a lie. The military officials knew it wasn’t led by Afghans, but they still emphatically made this false assertion and expected the press to repeat the phrase.Here.
In the briefing after the first phase of combat, Nicholson himself did not use the phrase “Afghan-led,” but he opened his presentation with false notes, highlighting the initial stages of the battle before summarizing what he cast as the positive performance of the Afghan National Army, whom we were fighting alongside. It was one of the major operations of President Obama’s new strategy in Afghanistan, one that highlighted the United States’ desire to eventually hand over the war entirely to the Afghan security forces — something that to this day has yet to happen.

Then consider this.
All those lives lost. All that money squandered. All the national prestige lost in a feckless campaign to accomplish a dubious mission!
They lied and hid behind patriotism.
Then think about this. If they had the audacity to lie about massive deaths on all sides, on trillions of dollars being spent then what won't they lie about?
Our Dept Of Defense needs an enema.
We need to hold those responsible accountable. If its obvious to someone like me then its certainly obvious to you.
Why wait till the first of the year? Every day is the first day of the rest of your life!

How long can these protests continue? We've seen a weird example in France where they seem to be an ongoing issue. Could we see the same in Hong Kong? I might be misreading things but I always thought that culturally this couldn't happen...at least for this long but I was wrong. Will the communist govt intervene? What has kept them from doing so this long?
