Doing the math on toilet paper...
This is the first valid explanation for killing USMC Tank Bn's but I'm not sure I'm buying it...
Has anyone else heard that the Marine Corps is giving up tanks? pic.twitter.com/j7DLtlctiz— Karlen Morris (@MorrisKarlen) March 18, 2020
Above is the news that we talked about with regard to Marine Tanks going away.
Below is the first valid explanation of why it's happening.
Whispers. Tied to GD pulling the support on the A1 from 2024/25 on to focus on the A2. Apparently the A2 isn't suitable/affordable and neither is MPF. Very sad occasion if it goes that way.— Eli Lea (@EliLea1) March 19, 2020
Eli does two things for us. First she gives a reasonable explanation of why the M1A1 might be going the way of the dinosaur. But at the same time she kinda invalidates it by stating that the MPF isn't suitable or sustainable.
Huh?
Protected, direct firepower in the form of a light tank isn't sustainable/affordable?
Then how the hell are we supporting the ACV? Why are we dipping our toe into the sea battle when we're an amphibious force whose focus is supposed to be amphibious assault?
This defies understanding and HQMC is buried deep in its fox hole. I would love to get a clear explanation. I don't even need to agree but something clear would be welcome.

Gentlemen.
I will continue to beat on this drum till you're repeating this mantra and claiming it as your own.
WE ARE NOT BEING TOLD THE REAL DANGER OF THIS VIRUS!
The steps being taken by the Fed, the White House, the Treasury, the Congress....the steps being taken by major corporations...the steps being taken by State Govts...the activity of our Navy to send HOSPITAL SHIPS to major cities in the US.
Add to that the massive correction in the stock market, the closing of schools...
We're not being told the truth about this bug. Additionally I still contend that we're looking at a bio-weapon that got released into the wild.
Do you realize that my worst case scenario is playing out right before your eyes? You do know that we're looking at a global recession and a reordering of not only the global order but social norms ACROSS THE PLANET.
We're living thru an event that rivals the rise of the industrial age. We're witnessing the end of globalism. Nation state rivalry will accelerate.
Let me hit you with this.
Once the dust settles on this drama do you think that the global supply chain will be mended? Do you think that we'll go back to free travel across borders without checks?
I contend that this event is probably laying the groundwork for the next major war between nations. Not proxies. Not idiotic nation building or trying to shape regions but a real deal war between two nation states.

Second wave of coronavirus cases hits Asia
via Financial Times
The number of coronavirus cases has spiked across Asia, crushing hopes that the region had contained the outbreak.
Officials in South Korea, Taiwan and parts of China and south-east Asia are rushing through new measures after a second wave of new infections following weeks of declines.
Experts say the sudden increase in cases has revealed the limits of both China’s sweeping lockdown of citizens and of the massive public testing and social distancing campaigns rolled out across Asia.
But it also highlights growing anxieties about new cases coming from abroad. The number of so-called imported infections has risen sharply as people flee the escalating coronavirus outbreak in Europe.
“What many people hadn’t recognised is that it is only a temporary success, it is not a permanent success,” said Ben Cowling, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Hong Kong.
Round 2? Is it just me or is this thing looking more and more like the Spanish Flu.
Marine Tanks No Longer...Berger cases the flags of the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tank Battalions...
Thanks to AJ for the link!
Wow. I've wondered many times about the future of Marine Tanks. I've mused about whether an ACV Mobile Gun System could replace them. Now? Now I'm thinking they BETTER be working on a MGS cause Marine Air, Naval Guns, and Long Range Strike Missiles won't get the job done.
This is some HUGE risk.
Everyone is clapping for Berger but he is taking a tremendous gamble with not only the lives of Marines but possibly the future of the nation.
Always remember. The fate of a nation can turn on the outcome of ONE battle....

So much for the Chinese propaganda effort. I think they'll find that the general public once pricked doesn't forgive. Especially on issues of importance...sorta like LIFE & DEATH!

China Lied to silence them
it must stop nowhttps://t.co/qad38xCaSP
Will we give this brave man and hero a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts? He sounded the alarm and his govt silenced him. A real hero. China isn't worthy of his sacrifice...it remains to be seen if the rest of us are.
Coronavirus News. The indestructible 20 somethings are now in ICUs suffering from the virus...worst case scenario is here, this thing has mutated.
Thanks to Filipo for the link!
Back on my wagon. This virus is either superman on steroids or its man made. I've never heard of a virus mutating this fast...and make no mistake it is mutating if its now hitting 20 somethings.
This is the nightmare scenario.
If 20 and 30 year olds are getting slammed then this thing could absolutely wreck the world.
If this is true and I believe it is, then we're screwed. Remember me saying this thing could cause a worldwide depression? That is definitely on the table. I can't wait to see what the markets say in the morning.
Just received confirmation on this from Dallas @JudgeClayJ chief of staff -- patients who have coronavirus and are in their 20s and 30s being treated now at Dallas hospitals are in critical condition and have no underlying conditions.— Allison Harris (@AllisonFox4News) March 17, 2020

Brazilian Army/Marines 6x6 Guarani VBTP to receive upgrades
via Shepard Media
The Brazilian Army is improving the situational awareness of the 6x6 Guarani VBTP through an indigenously developed system that will manage this platform: the Proteus-SGP.Here.
In early March, the army’s Manufacturing Directorate conducted the first test with this system, involving the 1st Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rio de Janeiro.
An army spokesperson told Shephard that the Proteus-SGP will centralize the Guarani's subsystems and add new capabilities to the vehicle. It will support the decision-making process of the VBTP commander, by providing enhanced awareness of the environment around the vehicle.
Additionally, ‘it will bring more flexibility because it will facilitate the integration of future systems and will reduce its costs', the spokesperson stressed.
The Systems Development Centre of the Brazilian Army has been developing Proteus-SGP since 2018. After concluding the test phase, the army will define a plan and deadlines for the system to enter service.
The spokesperson highlighted that, in total, the army will receive 1,260 Guarani vehicles until 2040 under a contract awarded to Iveco in 2016.
This contract states the procurement of the basic version of the Guarani platform, with annual deliveries of 60 units. To date, the army has received 424 VBTPs.
‘These vehicles will be able to operate during the day or at night, in different types of missions, including war and non-war actions,’ the spokesperson emphasized.
Based on a ballistic steel monocoque hull design, the VBTP offers performance and protection levels that are designed to fully meet the demands of current and future operations.
Its driveline and engineering are intended to be simple and robust, with the aim of allowing ease of support and flexibility in employment.
Among its characteristics, the VBTP has amphibious capacity and armoured protection. Its weapon system has a medium calibre cannon to support infantry troops and a .50 calibre machine gun mounted on a remotely controlled tower or on an armoured turret.
This vehicle also can transport 11 people, including the driver and a sniper. It has passive night vision equipment for the driver, commander and sniper, which allows the marksman to operate in low light conditions.
The army spokesperson explained that the Guarani VBTPs will be able to operate weapon systems, command and control systems and other types of equipment simultaneously, in order to reduce collateral damage; increase the effectiveness of its armament; and ensure the protection of the troops on board.
In addition, the Guarani programme aims to procure wheeled armoured vehicles with enhanced mobility features for cavalry and infantry units, the spokesperson said.
Elbit Systems’ ATMOS 155mm/52 caliber truck-mounted howitzer...via Army Recognition
via Army Recognition.
On March 15, 2020, Elbit Systems Ltd. has announced that its U.S. subsidiary, Elbit Systems of America, LLC, was awarded a $200 million contract as part of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) automatic self-propelled howitzer gun systems program.Here.
Currently, the Israeli army uses two types of artillery systems including the M109 Doher which is an upgraded version of the American-made M109 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzer based on the M109A5 version. Another artillery system in service with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) is the Soltam M-71, a 155mm towed howitzer.
In May 2019, the Israeli government has awarded the initial, $125 million contract of a planned 12-year, $280 million program to replace its tank-like M109 howitzers that could be based on Elbit’s wheeled self-propelled howitzer ATMOS.
The first generation of ATMOS 155mm self-propelled howitzer was developed by the company Soltam Systems which is now part of Israeli Company Elbit Systems.
Elbit Systems’ ATMOS is a 155mm/52 caliber truck-mounted howitzer that offers the advantages of superior firepower, enhanced mobility and rapid response time. Highly adaptable, the modular ATMOS system is compatible with any 6x6 or 8x8 high-mobility tactical truck. ATMOS supplies fire support for all types of missions and can be easily interfaced with customers’ existing C4I system.
The ATMOS can be mounted on any adapted high mobility 6x6 or 8x8 truck chassis preferred by the customer. The protected cabin of the ATMOS is designed for a crew of 2-6 personnel, a driver, a commander, and an additional three to four crew members along with all personal equipment and small arms. The cabin is equipped with an air conditioning system that is capable of both heating and cooling. The concept behind the ATMOS can be applied to the modernization of legacy towed guns, incorporating advanced new technologies like INS, MVR, ballistic computers, C4 I, hydraulics and electrical drives.
The ATMOS is armed with a 155 mm/52 caliber ordnance which conforms to NATO Joint Ballistic Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU). The ATMOS has a maximum firing range of 40 km with ERFB-BB ammunition and suitable propelling charge. Designed specifically for rapid deployment and operation on difficult terrain, the ATMOS’s shoot-and scoot capabilities are supported by an integrated electronic suite incorporating an INS-based laying system, as well as an automatic loading system that reduces crew effort.
The ATMOS can fire all types of qualified 155mm ammunition, projectiles and charges that are in use by NATO and other countries. On board containers store minimum of 18 rounds, including projectiles, propellants and fuses.
