Fear, aided by the media, is clouding our decision making...

Thanks to Mobeius2249 for the link!

I'm reaching a few terrible conclusions about this pandemic.

1.  In the US and Europe the areas most affected by this outbreak are major urban areas.

2.  Not race baiting but I believe that those areas also have the highest concentrations of Chinese tourists/visa holders/workers etc...

3.  A look at the map shows that for the most part fly over country is largely unaffected...yes there are cases but it isn't as bad as many had predicted (including myself with the early information...AND...the Chinese example).

4.  It's obvious that not only did China lie during the initial outbreak but they've also lied about the infected and deaths they've suffered.

5.  I can't make heads or tails of the situation in Italy/Spain/Iran.  Perhaps there is something unique to each country.  I don't know.  What I do know is that even at this point we should be looking at dramatically more killed by this virus than we already have.

6.  Politics have obviously entered into the picture of this issue.  I remain convinced that keeping the economy shut down WILL be worse than doing a partial opening of those areas that are lightly affected.

7.  We are operating out of fear, not reason.  We should adjust course immediately.

PPE Marine Corps style...

Wait.

Are you telling me the USMC has coyote tan N95 masks?  Gotta get some of those!

Next.

Notice the care package?  They're gonna make sure they shave!  Pandemic, Hurricane, Flooding, or the ride of the four horsemen be damned.

IF YOU'RE A MARINE YOU WILL BE CLEAN SHAVEN!

People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is adopting into service a 6x6 variant of the VP22 armour-protected truck

via Shepard Media.
It is possible the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is adopting into service a 6x6 variant of the VP22 armour-protected truck, after one example appeared in a news clip on state-owned television channel CCTV 7.

The video clip broadcast on 20 March showed the VP22 being used in some kind of training exercise purportedly involving the PLA.

However, the situation is not at all clear. The solitary VP22 had a single-color camouflage of green, rather than a more typical multi-color PLA camouflage scheme.

Furthermore, while the soldiers accompanying the vehicle carried Type 95 rifles and wore standard-looking PLA uniforms, their helmets differed somewhat as they had no covers, plus the personnel were wearing what appeared to be non-regulation eyewear.

The VP22 was unveiled publicly in 2017. Developed by BeiBen Truck, it is a 6x6 vehicle based on the company’s larger 8x8 Kaijia. It has twin axles at the front of the vehicle and one at the rear. BeiBen is a heavy truck manufacturer based in Inner Mongolia, founded in 1988 to license-produce Mercedes-Benz trucks.

The troop-carrying vehicle in the CCTV 7 video has an armoured cab for two crewmen (driver and commander) at the front and an enclosed ballistic-protected cell at the rear for transporting around 16 personnel. These protect occupants against small arms and artillery shrapnel, although protection levels have not been disclosed.

The VP22 is powered by a 423hp turbo-diesel engine coupled to an automatic transmission. Its top speed is listed as 90km/h, and it has a road range of 600km. A central tyre inflation system is standard.

No weapon was fitted on the supposed PLA vehicle.

Soldiers enter and exit the rear compartment through a large hydraulically operated ramp. As a modular design, the troop-carrying module could be replaced by alternative modules such as ambulance or command.

At the Zhuhai Airshow in 2018, Norinco demonstrated a similar type of vehicle oriented towards the export market. However, it differed from the regular VP22 in that its twin axles were at the rear rather than the front.

The demonstration vehicle in Zhuhai in 2018 had an RWS fitted on the roof of its rear compartment. However, the field of fire of a weapon such as a 12.7mm machine gun or 35mm automatic grenade launcher would be severely restricted in such a position.

The VP22 is a Chinese equivalent of the Kamaz Taifun-K 6x6 protected vehicle from Russia. The Russian military adopted it in 2014. To date, the PLA has had no similar class of vehicle in service.
Chinese equivalent of the Kamaz Taifun-K 6x6?  Naw bro.  It's a direct copy. I hope Kamaz sold the specs instead of China stealing them.  But I'm kinda betting they stole it.

I loved the movie Mortal Kombat and the fight against the emperor was classic (at least to me).  I'll never forget the stages of the fight.  Face your fears.  Face yourself.  Then.  Face your enemy.

We must do all of the above when it comes to China.

They're not indestructible.  They're not destined.  They're not "smarter".  It won't be easy.  We need to steel ourselves for the coming fight but we can win if we get faster and harder and willing to do the tough thing now!

We can read it for ourselves. USMC FORCE DESIGN 2030.

HERE!

Note.  I'm drinking this in and posting stuff that catches my eye while I'm reading it.

1.   The first thing that popped out.  WHY IS HE STATING 'RECOMMENDED' DIVESTMENT OF 3 TILTROTOR SQUADRONS????  IN OVER OTHER INSTANCE ITS ONLY 'DIVESTMENT'!!!

2.   WHOA!!!!  He is NOT CONFIDENT that we have a clear understanding of the F-35's capabilities!!!  That is fucking HUGE!
I am not convinced that we have a clear understanding
yet of F-35 capacity requirements for the future
force. As a result, the Service will seek at least one
external assessment of our Aviation Plan relative to
NDS objectives and evolving naval and joint warfighting
concepts.
As described in Congressional testimony, our continued
pilot shortfalls are a factor we must consider and either
scale programs of record accordingly or implement a
sustainable, affordable solution. Other Services face
similar shortfalls. This issue has recruiting, training,
and retention factors – as well as fiscal and industrial
base factors – that we must consider in reconciling the
growing disparity between numbers of platforms and
numbers of aircrew.
3.   Uh oh.  Cuts coming to the ACV and the JLTV...I think....
While the decrease in the number of infantry battalions
is clearly articulated in the Phase II material, the absence
of a major reduction in ground tactical combat vehicles
is inconsistent with the systems-oriented reduction
discussed above. DC CD&I will need to assess existing
ground tactical vehicle programs of record and
recommend appropriate adjustments to approved
acquisition objectives.
4.   Ain't no changing his mind about retaining tanks.  Berger says the US Army can do it.
We have sufficient evidence to conclude that this
capability, despite its long and honorable history in
the wars of the past, is operationally unsuitable for our
highest-priority challenges in the future. Heavy ground
armor capability will continue to be provided by the
U.S. Army.
I wonder what his meaning is here.  Is he saying that its an Army capability that we should not attempt to mirror?  If so then he's using the lessons of Desert Storm when Army tanks was supporting Marine Infantry.  As much as I hate the idea ... lets face it.  It's solid.

5.  This is expected but will push up the cost of the CH-53K to unmanageable levels.  The MV-22 will probably die as soon as the Army gets their tiltrotor working....
Divestment of three heavy helicopter squadrons
Based on analysis by our aviation subject-matter-experts,
five squadrons provide sufficient capacity to satisfy our
requirements as well as our future force as described
in approved naval concepts.
Divestment of three medium-lift tiltrotor squadrons
Given the reduction of infantry battalion capacity and
associated combat support, the remaining tiltrotor force
should be sufficient to our needs.
6.   Follow the money.  It's always about the money and the Marine Corps just saved the taxpayer a huge amount (although the pandemic response makes it look like a SINGLE drop in the bucket).
“The recommendations of the Phase II IPT result in a
potential savings of $12B to be reallocated towards
equipment modernization, training modernization, and
force development priorities.”
The terrible thing?  The US Army and now the US Marines have done some SAVAGE cutting but I believe it will ultimately be for naught.  The water faucet was turned on in Washington and the bean counters will still come calling for even MORE cuts.

7.   This is huge.  Berger isn't sure that the redesigned Infantry Bn will work...
Redesign of the infantry battalion
I am not confident that we have adequately assessed all
of the implications of the future operating environment
on the proposed structure of our future infantry battalion.
While I fully support redesign of the infantry battalion
in principle, I remain unconvinced that the specific
proposed new construct makes the force more capable
of Distributed Operations. We must conduct more
live-force experimentation to ensure our proposed
design results in a truly DO-capable force. I would
like to see intensive further analysis of this proposed
new structure during Phase III.
Kinda putting the cart before the horse huh?  Cuts before he's sure of the new design?  I MUST be missing something here.

8.  WOW!!! I TOTALLY MISSED THE MARK ON LAR!
Increase in Light Armored Reconnaissance
While I have repeatedly stated that all-domain
reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance will be
a critical element of any future contingency, I remain
unconvinced that additional wheeled, manned armored
ground reconnaissance units are the best and only
answer – especially in the Indo-Pacific region. We need
to see more evidence during Phase III to support this
conclusion before engaging in an expansion of our
existing capacity, or committing billions of dollars
in procurement funds towards the acquisition of an
Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV).
I need to drink this in.  First impression is that this dude is making a HUGE gamble and taking the Marine Corps in a direction that will set it back to an almost pre-WW2 status in our war machine.

Quite honestly it will be aviation centric to the point of being irrelevant in ground combat, tailored so much to the sea battle that it mimics Navy capabilities and so devoid of any relevance in any domain to make it utterly redundant.

In other words I fear that if we follow this plan we could see the Marine Corps sunset.

UAE’s new Rabdan IFV participates in Exercise ‘Native Fury’

via Janes
The first images of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces' new Rabdan 8×8 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) participating in a military exercise were released by the country's WAM news agency on 18 March.

A photograph and associated video showed the vehicle crossing the canal at the Al-Hamra Combat Training Centre on the coast of western Abu Dhabi where Exercise 'Native Fury' is being held with the US military.

The Rabdan is based on Otokar's Arma 8×8 and armed with the same turret the UAE Armed Forces' uses on its BMP-3 tracked IFVs. It appeared to have won the long-running contest to fill the UAE military's 8×8 IFV requirement in February 2017, when it was announced during the IDEX show held in Abu Dhabi that 400 had been ordered.

The order was placed with Al-Jasoor, a joint venture involving Otokar and the UAE's Tawazun Holdings, but Emirati armoured vehicle manufacturer Nimr told Jane's at the time that it would produce the vehicles. Al-Jasoor and Nimr are now both part of the UAE's new Edge defence industry conglomerate.

Two Rabdans featured in the live demonstration that the UAE Armed Forces put on at IDEX 2019, suggesting the type had entered service. Otokar said during the show that it had delivered the first batch of the 100 vehicles that were being produced at its plant in Sakarya ahead of production being transferred to the UAE.

Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) released a photograph on 8 February showing its CEO inspecting a Rabdan without a turret during a visit to the Nimr plant in Abu Dhabi.

Guess we need to talk about this. Coronavirus could cause several societal problems in a number of areas...

Trump is right to want to get the govt back open.  The economic consequences of a prolonged shut down should shock the soul.  Imagine whole swaths of the American public unemployed.  We could literally plunge the world into a global depression if he mistimes this thing and keeps us closed for too long.

But there is the other side of this too.  Did you hear about this freak named Timothy Wilson?  Via Heavy.com
Timothy Wilson, a man who died in an FBI shootout in Belton, Missouri, was planning to bomb a hospital providing “critical medical care” during the current coronavirus health care crisis, according to a statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Wilson felt compelled to act when the Belton mayor issued a stay-at-home order to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak, The New York Times reported.

The Informant’s Nick R. Martin has unearthed social media posts he says were made by Wilson on Telegram channels using the handle Werwolfe 84; according to Martin’s research, Wilson was “an admirer of the 1980s terrorist group The Order” and was linked to “two active neo-Nazi organizations,” the National Socialist Movement (NSM) and Vorherrschaft Division (VSD). Elon University computer science professor Megan Squire helped Martin with the research.

According to Martin, Wilson was active on Telegram on Tuesday, March 24, writing that he thought the government was using coronavirus as an “excuse to destroy our people,” adding, “Mark my words it’s coming I hope people are ready.” He also commented on COVID-19, according to Martin, writing, “If you don’t think this whole thing was engineered by Jews as a power grab here is more proof of their plans. Jews have been playing the long game we are the only ones standing in their way.”

In the March 25, 2020 statement, the FBI revealed that it had executed a probable cause arrest the day before for Timothy Wilson, 36, at the 100th block of Wilbur Parish Circle in Belton, Missouri. That action came “at the conclusion of a long-running domestic terrorism investigation,” the FBI wrote.

FBI agents went to arrest Wilson, who was armed, when Wilson “was injured and transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” according to the statement from the FBI. The New York Times reported that Wilson was killed in a shootout with FBI agents. It’s not clear whether he died at his own hand or was shot by the agents.
Here.

Yeah.

Societal disorder is the other issue with this prolonged shutdown.  The news media is down playing the danger but its more than economic.

This is about our nation.

We're not China so I don't expect to see widespread martial law declared but this "shutdown" activated this clown and it could others.

Additionally (and I won't go into details) but police/sheriff depts are getting hit hard.

State Police and other local agencies are trying to fill in where appropriate but once they finish their quarantine (unless they tragically need hospitalization) then we're running short.  Changes in routine have been announced to limit contact but there are times when you just have to go hands on.

I guess what I'm getting at is the longer this goes on the more likely we're gonna have to try NATIONWIDE martial law.

Partial opening of places that are "lightly" affected means that we can send National Guard Military Police to those big cities that partied when they should have remained inside (looking at you New Orleans, New York, Chicago and other places) to reinforce local law enforcement.

SO what does that mean?

It means that we'll see big cities continue stay at home orders.  Probably reinforced with some type of police action if they see a violator.  They'll have the National Guard to back them up and fill gaps in the line.

In other locations you'll see the order lifted and life will get back to normal.  Big cities are different from rural locations.  City mice once cherished that difference.  Now?  Now, if Trump is smart, they'll re-think their lifestyle.

Blast from the past (when Gyms were open)...Interesting Treadmill Workout!

91 Degrees Fahrenheit Today...Max Sunshine & High Humidity...God Loves Louisiana!

Yeah.  New York might be still wearing jackets but its shorts and t-shirt weather here.

Much better compliance with the stay at home order from the governor too. But the thing that has me smiling is the bright sunshine, early summer temps etc...

How are things where you're at?  Am I wrong for thinking that early summer will help mitigate this thing?  Additionally I'm wanting a poll to see where everyone is at with the proposed rolling "opening up" of things.

The DDH183 sure is pretty ain't she?  When the Japanese decide to build a full on aircraft carrier I'm betting it'll be a sight to behold.
