Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, said it’s possible that in the future Americans may carry documents to prove they are immune or not infected with the coronavirus.Here.
Fauci, who is one of the public health officials on the administration’s coronavirus task force, said such a system is one of several options they are discussing.
“That’s possible,” he said on CNN’s “New Day.”
“It’s one of those things that we talk about when we want to make sure who the vulnerable people are and not,” Fauci added. “This is something that’s being discussed, I think it might actually have some merit.”
The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases also said that within a period of “a week or so” there will be a large number of new antibody tests, which allow users to discover whether they possess a unique immune response to the virus.
“As soon as they get validated, they’ll be out there for people to use,” Fauci said. “It’s very likely that there are a large number of people out there that have been infected, have been asymptomatic and did not know.”

We've been over this broken ground but we need to take a serious look at what's been done in the name of protecting us.
During last years flu season the CDC estimated that 34,200 people died.
Up to 440,000 people died from medical mistakes (the third leading cause of death in the US).
But because of this we shut down the govt, closed business and have restricted the rights of travel to the majority of our FREE citizens?
Additionally the medical advice on this trauma is shifting right before our eyes. I read a report that the ventilators that staff have been crying for have less than beneficial factors in relation to patients recovering.
Did we FREELY give up too much? Did we happily go along with the govt instead of questioning this reaction?
Did we illustrate to the powers that be that if told we're facing an emergency that we would all cower like sheep and not even question the rationale behind their decisions?
I hope not, but I think we just did...and we've been doing it for more than a few weeks now.

Marine Aviation? To help fight the Coronavirus? MV-22's instead of UH-1Y's? I don't quite get it.
Quite honestly this really makes no sense to me. I can see Motor T being used to deliver supply by road. UH-1Y's to help supplement the movement of individuals from hospital helipads...even Military Police to help with checkpoints (do they have them in Boston?).
But MV-22's?

What happened to flexible response? If anything cried out for the formation of a "Special Purpose MAGTF" this is it.

By focusing on a conventional fight with China in the Pacific and building a missile/F-35/special ops support force the Marine Corps will more and more see itself left on the outside looking in on all the future needs that our country needs us to help solve.
This is why Berger's concept is so dangerous. We become less useful. If we become less useful then we become an expensive burden.
In the world that is coming, if we provide no value to the nation except in a scenario that is at best a 10% chance of happening then we will be early on the "must cut" board. That's why this New Marine Corps will kill the Marines.

USMC seeks exit route for tanks

After announcing the planned removal of its entire MBT capability in its Force Design 2030 blueprint, the USMC is now working to define how these vehicles will leave the service.
Maj Joshua Benson, USMC director of communication, strategy and operations, told Shephard that this move will occur over the next few fiscal years, although he could not confirm a precise timeframe.
‘For operational security purposes, specific details regarding force design changes will not be made available to maintain a competitive edge over our adversaries and prevent the acceleration of enemy counter-actions due to disclosures,’ Benson pointed out.
He added that many specific details are now being worked by the deputy commandants and the responsible units throughout the USMC.
The M1A1 Abrams MBT is the backbone of the USMC armoured vehicle fleet. The tank is operated by a crew of four and it is armed with a 120mm M256 smoothbore gun, a coaxial 7.62mm M240 machine gun, a pintle-mounted M240 on the turret roof for the loader, and a pintle-mounted .50cal M2HB heavy machine gun on the turret roof for the commander.
In the Force Design 2030 blueprint, released in late March, USMC Commandant Gen David Berger said that removing heavy ground armoured vehicles will not damage the US military, as this capability will continue to be provided by the US Army.
‘We have sufficient evidence to conclude that this capability, despite its long and honorable history in the wars of the past, is operationally unsuitable for our highest-priority challenges in the future,’ Berger stressed.
In his opinion, the USMC has over-invested in other capabilities such as towed cannon artillery and short-range/ low-endurance UAS that are incapable of employing lethal effects.
The USMC will also disband its law enforcement battalions and associated military occupational specialities, as well as all bridging companies.
It will also reduce the number of infantry battalions from 24 to 21; artillery cannon batteries from 21 to five; and amphibious vehicle companies from six to four.
The USMC will reassign the 1st Battalion/8th Marines to 2nd Marines and 2nd Battalion/8th Marines to 6th Marines. In addition, the activation of the 5th Battalion/10th Marines was cancelled although its assigned batteries will realign under the existing 10th Marine Regiment structure. The 8th Marine Regiment Headquarters Company and 3rd Battalion/8th Marines will be deactivated.

Hmm. I guess a naval force based off missiles and aircraft only needs to partner with the Army on the missile part of this.
Question.
If the USMC is designating long range missile fire as "part of its reason for being" then what happens to the Corps when the Army gets into the ship killing business with missiles as good or better?
Do we then have to have the debate of "the Army can kill ships from land then why do we need a Marine Corps"?
If we fall back aboard ship to launch from then do we have to have the debate "the US Navy kills ships better than anyone, why do we need the Marine Corps"?

Navy LtCdr wants to put the Ground Combat Element to the knife in his proposed "new" MEU...

The battalion landing team requirements and the equipment to support it far exceed its use by combatant commanders. The number of detachments added to an infantry battalion to form a landing team gives the unit a large footprint on board the ARG. If the ESG concentrates on four mission sets, the battalion landing team should be slimmed down and optimized to support those missions. Each ship in the ARG should have one complete rifle company. The landing team’s heavy weapons company should divide into three groups, each staffed with some of their machine gun, antiarmor, and mortar platoons, and be split among the three ships in the group. This would give every ship in the ARG a capable landing force. However, the remainder of the detachments would disappear from the new MEU construct. The combat logistics battalion should be slimmed down as well.
The vehicle storage space freed by eliminating these would allow ships in the ARG to carry a greater share of aviation parts. Currently, the LHD hangar deck often is choked with parts, quadcons, and aviation support equipment, leaving little room for aircraft maintenance. The F-35B has an enormous footprint because each jet requires its own shipping container for support. Placing these in lower vehicle storage would give them space without crippling the hangar and make them easier to secure from unauthorized personnel.

The new ARG/MEU construct can and should be a key part of supporting special operations forces. The landing team would support missions as a PR asset, blocking force, or as part of a quick reaction force. The LHD also could use the troop berthing cleared out by slimming the landing team to embark a Tier-II special operations asset, such as a company of Force Reconnaissance or Marine Raiders or a SEAL platoon.
The embarked MH-60S detachment would need to be certified to support this unit as an insertion platform for short- to medium-range missions. The Osprey squadron, with its longer range and faster speed, would take over for long-range missions. With less heavy equipment on board the ARG, there would be less need to embark landing craft, utility (LCUs), and the space could be reallocated to embark special operations craft.

There is less need now for a ready force to conduct an amphibious assault than there was 35 years ago. Rather, the Navy and Marine Corps should focus on the four missions that cater most to the needs of geographic component commanders: strike (as a light carrier), raiding, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) operations, and special operations support. By narrowing down to these four missions, the ARG/MEU can better train and become more proficient in a more limited set of skills.Full story here.
