CDR Salamander says it best.

When I heard that the President said this, I almost lost my mind!  If this doesn't make you want to punch walls then nothing will...
Unaware that a microphone was recording him, President Obama asked outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday for breathing room until after Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign to negotiate on missile defense.

“On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space,” Mr. Obama told Mr. Medvedev at the end of their 90-minute meeting, apparently referring to incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr. Medvedev replied, “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…”

“This is my last election,” Mr. Obama said. “After my election, I have more flexibility.”

The Russian leader responded, “I understand. I transmit this information to Vladimir.”
That my friends sounds like the talk of an enemy within.

That sounds like a man that is plotting against his own country with the leaders of another country.

This type of talk sounds like...well....treason.

But that's my gut reaction...CDR Salamander has a better take.  Read it over at his house.

  1. The man is fundamentally Western European in mindset when it comes to Russia. He sees no threat, therefore, he sees no issue with what he is doing. I never was gung ho about European missile defense, but this does not bode well for our nuclear stockpile, since I think that is his real aim post election.

This guy is most likely going to sail to an easy reelection, and I don't see the political opposition putting together a strong contingency plan in the Congress.

  2. Just sounds like politics to me. Obviously its better for both sides to negotiate a solution but they cant posture and push publically to accomplish that. If they try Obama would have to be forceful so that his electorate knows hes a strong leader, that gets you nowhere diplomatically though.

Obviously not the sort of thing i'd be adept at (or you Sol im guessing), its not a military way of approaching things, but when it comes to diplomacy and politics it may be better to let it happen. We all know that what politicians do publically for the benefit of the media and electorate and how they get things done in reality dont always match up.

  3. the thing that really has me alarmed is the fact that his base of support seems to be NY city, Chicago and California.

everywhere else the guy is either struggling for support or leads only by a slim margin.

the country is divided over him but no one seems to notice. its like 1/4th of the country is determining how the other 3/4ths is going to live.

    there will be trouble.

    i can feel it.

  4. Grim...i get what you're saying and would normally agree but the country is really divided over this guy and he seems oblivious to it all.

we're not a very calm bunch.

Brits would say...stay calm and carry on...

US would say...stay calm and and shoot straight.

  5. Grim,

Well said. It's just the nature of politics and international relations. In other words, a red herring.

  6. i hope you guys are right.

previous presidents got in trouble for saying they were going to bomb a target.

    brave new world huh.

  7. Vladimir Putin is a shrewd wolf that can quickly turn the tables on a self styled philosopher President. Do people think the Russians are going to stop with missile defense? The Chinese also happen to watch this type of stuff too for that matter.

  8. first sol Obama wont be re-elected with 1/4th the country and must win states, not just popular vote, and we dont have any better alternatives. I didnt see anything worrisome here, he was being honest and the fear mongering from republicans isnt going to help. Russia is a hollow force, their only asset is their nuclear stockpile which they wont use because response would be devastating.

  9. no.

Obama has to win population centers.

i break it down to this.

New York metropolis from New York City down to DC up to Boston.

Florida metropolis...basically the state of florida.

California metropolis...the coast of California from San Diego up to Los Angeles and San Fran.

Chicago metropolis. and then he needs to grab one other population center...Ohio...Texas...Virginia...

So no, the guy doesn't need to win the country. all he needs is the liberal, European thinking parts of our country to win.

  10. its a majority type system, the urban centers are where most people are? whats the alternative, give two votes to people in rural areas?

  11. oh so fuck the rest of the country right? just worry about those large areas and be happy?

i hope to GOD that some type of food disruption hits...gas goes up so much that the trucks can't run...that Iran goes crazy and attacks someone so that foolishness happens.

we'll see how arrogant the city dwellers are then. i'll sit back in the "sticks" and enjoy watching the misery.

  12. Please. Can we steer clear of the completely delusional. Listen to yourselves. Re-read what you've just posted. WTF - "Treason" ?

It's called politics. The Pres can't deliver on reducing the insane numbers of warheads we have or calming the equally insane Russian issues with BMD, until he knows whether he has a job after this year. If anyone from the rebups clown car actually succeed then all bets are off.

Seriously, I like this site but take a breath people.

(BTW, reading the comments and re-reading the original post - it's obvious you really have no love for this guy at all).

    1. What exactly is your definition of "treason"?

    2. conspiring with the enemy to the detriment of my own country. whether in word, or action.

    3. Seriously. In rational discourse we have to ask for a definition of treason ?

Stop and think here. You're accusing the legitimate President of the United States of America of treason because he wants to defer the details of a treaty until next year. Slow day ?

  13. IF IT WAS SO HARMLESS THEN WHY WAS IT WHISPERED AND NOT SPOKEN FOR ALL TO HEAR?

    POLITICS?

NO, THIS PRESIDENT REALIZES THAT AT LEAST HALF OF THIS COUNTRY DISAGREES WITH HIS POLITICS.

INSTEAD OF PUSHING WHAT EVERYONE CAN AGREE WITH, HE'S PUSHING POLICIES THAT ONLY PORTIONS...YEAH, PORTIONS OF HIS BASE WANT.

    THAT'S WRONG.

FOR HIM TO WHISPER WITH FOREIGN LEADERS OUT OF EAR SHOT OF THE PUBLIC INDICATES THAT HE HOLDS THE POPULATION IN DISGUST. HE DOESN'T LIKE US OR DOESN'T THINK OF US AS BEING SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES THAT HE'S DEALING WITH.

WE CAN HANDLE BOTH THE TRUTH AND ISSUES THAT ARE FACING THIS COUNTRY. ONLY A SUPREMELY ARROGANT INDIVIDUAL WOULD THINK OTHERWISE.

    1. How can he push for anything everyone agrees with when the default Republican reaction is to oppose anything Obama and the Democrats favor?

The individual mandate is a REPUBLICAN IDEA! They were for it before they were against it.

  14. not really.

when did typing in all caps become a sign of anger????? that's so....well to be honest its crazy!

in the military messages are sent out in all caps all the time. when i started typing the caps key was in and i was halfway through before i locked onto it.

thats why i do most of my responses in lower case.

its funny. you can cuss, fuss and actually be pissed off but if its in lower case no one thinks you're angry.

the world is a crazy, silly, place. we've lost our way and no one realizes exactly how out of whack things are.

    think about it.

all caps means you're angry in our society!

how wimpy have we become? how big a pussy are we now!

  15. It looks like I was right.

"He downplayed that he was making any new revelation, saying that in speeches he's noted wanting to reduce nuclear stockpiles and a barrier to doing that is building trust and cooperation on missile defense."

  16. you were right Drake but what annoys me to no end is that this guy pushed through a major restructuring of our health care system without public support and by back room dealings....heck he got it passed because a Republican switched to the Democratic party when he got beat in the primary and wanted to desperately cling to power. his price of admission to the Dems house was a yes vote on health care.

he still got defeated and Obama didn't campaign for him but he got what he deserved and the president got what he wanted.

i'm not crazy enough to believe that the Republicans are any better...i guess Orwell was right. we are living in Animal Farm.
