This might be bigger than I thought. Russia is sending bombers to Syria...

Thanks to Vodnar for the link!

Maybe I was wrong.  I thought we'd see limited but vicious fighting but to send bombers?  What are the Russians thinking?

Russia is posturing for a fight...reports of the USS Donald Cook being harassed in the Med.

Thanks to Drinas for the link!

The enemy gets a vote and Russia is posturing for a fight.  I've been monitoring all kinds of news about Russian activity in Syria and it's looking like a huge meatgrinder is starting to turn.

Besides news that the USS Donald Cook has been harassed by Russian warplanes in the Med, we also get word that they've put their forces on full alert.

If you're thinking that this would be a limited strike to teach the Assad regime a lesson I think you're mistaken.

This looks like it could spiral unless cooler heads prevail.

While the President, WarHawks in Congress and the main stream news media all scream for war, I'm sure the hotline in Syria between US and Russian forces is melting down from all the use it's getting.

But what happens if strikes are ordered?

I don't know.  I don't think this will be WW3 but I think both sides will be bloodied in ways we haven't experienced lately...at least since Vietnam.

I think airpower in the US will get a huge wake up call too.  Drones are being jammed by Russian forces and I'd bet they have other surprises (as will we) that aren't in the open.

My prediction?

It'll be a go.

They'll launch cruise missiles with the bulk being from the US and a small spattering from the UK and France.  The air strike package will be the same players and I predict we'll see 4 or 5 aircraft knocked down.  If the crews survive and don't land in terrorist controlled areas they'll be treated and released pretty soon.

Everyone will go back into their corner and the IDIOCY that is Syria will continue.

Air Accidents Killed More U.S. Troops Than Combat In Afghanistan Over The Past Year

via Forbes.
Last week, the U.S. military experienced three air crashes in the space of two days. On April 3, the U.S. Marine Corps lost a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter in the U.S. as well as an AV-8B Harrier jet in Djibouti. Four Marines were killed in the CH-53E crash while the pilot of the AV-8B managed to eject and was reported to be in a stable condition in Camp Lemonnier's medical facility. Those incidents were swiftly followed by the crash of an F-16 in Nevada operated by The Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force's flight demonstration team. Unfortunately, the pilot died in the crash.

The spate of deadly accidents raises questions about whether U.S. military airpower is in the midst of a crisis. Since the beginning of March alone, 14 service members have been killed in crashes. The deadliest of those incidents occurred when an Air Force HH-60 helicopter collided with power lines in western Iraq, killing seven airmen. Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Mac Thornberry, released a statement on Saturday saying that the "readiness of the military is at crisis point". When asked about the situation in a recent Pentagon briefing, however, Joint Staff Director Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie said that he is not prepared to characterize the crashes as evidence of a "wave" or "crisis", saying that each incident will be investigated.
Story here.

There is a graphic posted with this story but its from "Task and Purpose" blog and I'll never link to them.  I despise that group with every fiber of my being.

Having said that this is stunning.

More troops are killed in air crashes than in combat?

Our house is broken.

It's past time to take a beat, set a course (realistic course this time) and move out with confidence that the plan is solid instead of being laced with rainbows and unicorns.

Confidence ain't high that will happen though.

I don't know when it happened but for some reason the Pentagon has fallen in love with increased operations tempo (artificially caused) and deployments that make no sense.

That means more air crashes are almost certain.

Navy Matters Blog on the AFSB (formerly the MLP)

via Navy Matters
How many times have I said it?  Before you build a ship you spell out a concept of operations (CONOPS).  Well, the Navy has violated that simple requirement yet again and now we’re seeing the Navy flounder yet again, trying to figure out how to use a ship.  This time it’s the Afloat Forward Staging Base, USNS Lewis B. Puller, which is replacing the USS Ponce – yes, I know, the Navy is resorting to another of their gimmicks to try to make the size of the fleet appear larger by commissioning the Puller into the Navy instead of residing in the Military Sealift Command where all other similar ships and, in fact, its sister ship reside.  That aside …

The floundering is highlighted in what was, no doubt, intended to be a celebratory article on the USNI News website (1) about the arrival of Puller to the 5th Fleet.  Read the following snippets and you’ll get a sense that the Navy has a ship with no pre-defined role and is desperately searching for something it can do.  The ship’s Captain appears to have been tasked with trying to “sell” the ship to the rest of the Navy/Marines and find something for it to do.
Story here.

If you've been a long time reader of this blog then you know I've floated the Reinforced MEU Concept with the AFSB acting as a surrogate LCAC carrier AND a staging platform for additional rotary winged aircraft and even armor.

We have the ships and the crews so it would cost us nothing more PLUS it would enhance our amphibious assault force.

Are they listening?

Nope.

Is it still a good idea?

You bet your ass.

Hey Captain instead of searching for missions and begging people to come aboard to train, how about you talk to the bubbas in Naval Operations and pitch this idea.

You can even take credit you son of a bitch, I don't care, but it will make our force more lethal.

Win-win!

USMC nears decision on Amphibious Combat Vehicle winner.

via Defense News.
The Marine Corps is nearing a decision on whether BAE Systems or SAIC will build its new Amphibious Combat Vehicle, having just wrapped up operational tests of prototypes a week ago.

The Marine Corps is still on track to make an award for low-rate initial production to one of the companies in the June time frame.

All government testing of the prototypes concluded the first week of December and the Marine Corps issued its request for proposals the first week in January. Operational tests also began concurrently, John Swift, BAE Systems’ ACV program manager, told Defense News in an interview just ahead of Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space conference.

Government testing included land reliability testing, survivability and blast testing and water testing — both ship launch and recovery as well as surf transit.

Operational evaluations included seven prototypes each from both SAIC and BAE Systems, six participated and one spare was kept for backup.

The first month of operational testing took place at Twentynine Palms Base in California, where Marines ran through a variety of tactical missions with the vehicles. And the following month, the vehicles went to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, where it performed littoral penetrations, surf operations and a portion on land, according to Swift.

Over the course of the two-month time period — or roughly 10 weeks — the vehicles accrued almost 4,000 miles and over 1,500 mission hours, “which is unbelievable,” Swift said.

The operational tests validated “the robustness of our design,” Swift said, pointing back to the mileage and hours logged, adding, “that is phenomenal.”

BAE Systems’ partnered with Italian company Iveco Defense Vehicles to build its ACV offering.

The Marine Corps awarded both BAE and SAIC roughly $100 million each in December 2015 to build 16 prototypes for the service to test.

The Marines plan to field 204 of the vehicles by 2020. The total value of the contract with all options exercised is expected to amount to about $1.2 billion.

I'm not even fired up about this thing anymore.

Took too long, they obviously slow walked EVERYTHING and they went dark by giving no updates on where they were and what they were doing.

Get it done and call me later....Marine Corps ground programs are fucked up from the floor up.

London Mayor goes full Nazi...

via Fox News.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a tough crackdown on knives Sunday as the city reels from a spike in stabbings that have led its number of homicides to top New York City's for two straight months.

He tweeted: “No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.”

The tweet also included an action plan to boost police power and prevent future violence.

London has seen more than 50 homicides already in 2018.

Most of the city’s murder victims have been stabbed to death, as guns are tightly restricted in Britain and shootings are relatively rare.

If the bloody trend continues, London will far surpass the 130 murders in 2017 and reach a number not seen since the early 2000s.
Story here.

Two things.  First this bastard tweeted this announcement?  Weird.  Trump's tweeting has caused me nothing but pain because that fucker never shuts up and now other politicians are doing it?  Simply amazing.

Second.  This dude is going full Nazi.  It's legal to carry an unlocking knife in the UK that is less than 3 in long.  Now?  Now they're about to stop and frisk based on it?  Additionally from my readings most of these attacks are carried out with kitchen knives!  Are they gonna somehow regulate kitchen utensils since their gun ban didn't stop homicides?

This is why I (we) say gun control is not about violence reduction it's about people control.  Humans have and will continue to hurt, injure and kill each other with whatever tool they have available.

London is the latest example of utopian fantasy run amok.

You can't change human nature.  What you can do is to punish those in society that violate our laws and toss away the key.

Ajax Fighting Vehicle "Littoral Force Fording" trials....

Hmm.  Not very deep.  I wonder if they're gonna forgo developing a snorkel system and just rely on PRECISE beach surveys.

Lockheed Martin's MQ-25

Trump is walking blind into a Neo-Con/Globalist/Interventionist trap...is limited combat with Russia now inevitable?

This latest gas attack in Syria and Trump's off the cuff response had me worried.

Russia's response has me even more worried.

I personally have a gut feeling that we're looking at a setup.  It makes no sense for Assad to have used chemical weapons.  They are rolling up their enemy and have them on the run.  The partition of Syria is in progress with Turkey gobbling up the Kurds as we speak, US forces attempting to hold ground with Special Ops (a mission they are NOT designed to do...even the specialist in that role the Green Berets would need MASSIVE conventional help to do the deed if they're combat multiplying by using host nation/insurgent forces) and the Israelis are doing what they do.

But back on task.

This false flag is designed to mute Trump's talk of withdrawal and its working like a charm.

Even worse.

I think a response will require the Russians to actually fire on our guys.  The weird thing?  The F-35 just arrived in theater so I think this might all be part of the planning.  A little combat debut for the bastard of an airplane with body bags filled with our special ops bubbas to accentuate the point.

The Russians won't back down from this fight. Check out a link Drinas gave us....
A post from the Saker blog, I copy paste almost the whole thing, it is of great interest I believe.

"I just spend about 2 hour listening to a TV debate of Russian experts about what to do about the USA. Here are a few interesting interesting points.

1)..the only way to stop this is to deliberately bring the world right up to the point were a full-scale US-Russian war was imminent or even locally started. They said that it was fundamentally wrong for Russia to reply with just words against Western actions.
...

3) Another interesting conclusion was th at the only really question for Russia is whether Russia would be better off delaying this maximal crisis or accelerating the events and making everything happen sooner. There was no consensus on that.

4) Next, there was an consensus view that pleading, reasoning, asking for fairness or justice, or even for common sense, was futile. The Russian view is simple: the West is ruled by a gang of thugs supported by an infinitely lying and hypocritical media while the general public in the West has been hopelessly zombified.

5) There was also a broad consensus that th e US elites are not taking Russia seriously and that the current Russian diplomatic efforts are futile (especially towards the UK). The only way to change that would be with very harsh measures, including diplomatic and military ones. ..

6) To my amazement, the notion that Russia might have to sink a few USN ships or use Kalibers on US forces in the Middle-East was viewed as a real, maybe inevitable, option. Really – nobody objected.

http://thesaker.is/listening-to-russian-experts-short-report-about-the-mood-on-russian-prime-time-tv/
This whole war has been a setup and batshit stupid.  ISIS should have been crushed in days not years.

Now?

Now we have a real possibility of the US and Russia actually crossing swords.

This is why I hate the elite.  They're about to play games with the lives of people who are true believers in the red, white and blue.  They're being propelled by greed and a jacked up worldview of America world police.

We need adults in positions of power and all we have are toddlers masquerading as men and women.
