Europe is accepting the truth.
You can't keep the economy closed as long as we have without the cure being worse than the disease.
The same will happen in the US. Despite many of those on this blog that would sacrifice everything because of fear of the virus, the reality is stark.
If we stay closed more people will die from that than will from this disease. As shocking as that is, its a fact.

NAVAL BASE GUAM (April 11, 2020) U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jacob Blanton, assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 3 (CLR 3), directs movement of an AAV-P7/A1 amphibious assault vehicle during an operation to offload equipment for an Expeditionary Medical Facility (EMF) from Watson-class vehicle cargo ship USNS Dahl (T-AKR-312). The EMF will provide expanded medical capabilities in support of DoD’s COVID-19 response and will enable forces to be postured to support Guam and the region if a Defense Support of Civil Authorities mission is requested. It's obvious that Guam will be the "treatment" area for the Pacific fleet for sailors that come down with the Coronavirus. Expect no more announcements of sick crews or sailors/Marines aboard ship getting sick. At least from the Navy/Marines. If news gets out it will be via Red Cross messages being released from the families.

Buckle up boys and girls. This is probably correct (feels right to me) which means that things are going to get sporty for more than a few of us. Get your shit together now.

Bye bye Women's Basketball, Gymnastics, Volleyball. Bye bye Track & Field. But for the nerdy types...bye bye a great deal of funding for science, business (maybe not a loss) and humanities.
The knock on effects of this thing will not become apparent to MOST of you till the bill is paid going into the future.
Additionally the longer this goes on the longer it will take to reestablish supply chains. Food will be more expensive cause farmers can't get in the field...as a matter of fact outside of oil (because demand will continue to be low) we can expect all of it to rise.
Scarcity will be the new normal for many goods and a few services. It's time for the US to make a choice. Either do the hard thing now or deal with the harder thing later.

That's a 12,000 ton Destroyer headed out to sea for trials.
The Marine Corps ain't helping with this problem. We're establishing "Littoral" Battalions to help with the sea fight? This ain't gonna be a fight near the shore.
The Chinese are gonna try and take on the US Navy far out at sea. Get into a big ass brawl, and are seeking to drown them, skull fuck them, and sit back and drink their milk shake.
Once that's done then their fleet will do a reverse WW2 on us. Our fleet will be on the bottom and our Marines will be alone and isolated on islands.
This plan ain't gonna work.
So what do we do?
The NAVY needs to REFOCUS on the big sea battle. That's the problem! They need to reorient from being a land attack force and get back into the ship killing business 110%.
The issue isn't the USMC being a second land army. The issue is that the Navy was YANKED OFF MISSION by the Bush Admin to support the war on terror.

Past May 1st the cure will be worst than the disease...the narrative of the Covid-19 crisis is out of control...
Long story short?
This disease has wrecked the major urban areas. Places where people live on top of each other. Where they crowd into mass transit and walk on crowded streets.
You know the places. Those areas of the country that are so superior to fly over country. The cultured, properly minded, intellectually superior places.
Well ya know what?
This is there problem, not the rest of the country's! On this one Trump is right (although that statement that his power is absolute was pure idiocy...I literally cringed when he said that).
We're facing a bigger problem though.
We've actually given power to people that seem to be reviling in it. The idea that medical professionals are almost demanding that we keep the country closed into summer is lunacy on a stick.
We'll be lucky to pull out of this thing without massive business closing forever, and possibly avoiding a depression. Oh and that "free" stimulus money? Ain't nothing free. They'll take it back one way or another soon enough. Mark my words on that!
Ending?
If you have underlying health issues. If you haven't properly looked after your health. If you've allowed yourself to become obese, have high blood pressure (from poor diet/lack of exercise), etc...then you're in a risk group. If you're elderly you're in a risk group. If you're a person of color and you have the above then you're in a risk group. If you're white and have any of the above then you're in a risk group.
Now.
Man up. Be an adult. Take care of yourself and let's get this country back moving.
Stop allowing politicians/medical experts close the entire country to save less than 1/10th of 1% of the population.

I've been reading the comments and I only have this to say. If we continue this shutdown as many of you suggest what do you think will happen to the our economy? Denmark is already reopening and Japan and S. Korea are trying to do staggered reopening. Why? Because if we stay closed then we are calling in a GREAT DEPRESSION that will make the previous one look like child's play! You unleash the societal damage of a destroyed economy on the Western world in the age that we live in and you will see chaos that will chill your soul.
You think crime was an issue? Just wait and see what happens if people are out of work till July! You think the medical system is overwhelmed? Just watch what happens if you keep this shut down till July! You think that social discourse is at an all time low? Just wait!
I find it amazing that people are so nonchalant about the realities of this thing. Do you think the govt will be able to keep funding the closure of business? Do you think employers will keep people on payroll if they're not doing work? Do you think that our fragile societies can handle what you're asking for?
If you think it can then doom on you and I hope you get what you're asking for. Personally I'm not worried. My job is considered essential so no pain here. But I worry about my fellow American and our country. Said it before and I'll say it again. THE CURE CAN'T BE WORSE THAN THE DISEASE! Sometimes society must do the hard thing and accept the casualties so that the body can remain functional.

Does it really matter? N. Korea conducted an act that would grab the attention of the world. Rinse and repeat...except the pandemic is going on so I guess we're forced to pay a bit more attention in case the little madman goes completely batshit stupid.
