These men were cleared but their careers were ruined. This was during the height of winning minds and hearts. Bush Jr and his administration did alot of harm to the military and the country during their tenure. His enablers in the military (we often forget that every administration has its pet generals that will do their bidding despite the damage to the troops/organization) were fully onboard.

The DoD abhors a vacuum. If the USMC won't do amphibious assaults then the US Army will. Kinda crazy but wouldn't it be a kick in the pants to see Army vehicles filling the well decks of Navy ships and making use of those new LCACs?
I mean the USMC is gonna be slammed aboard Landing Ship Mediums right?
The USMC only operates in the littorals so if a push needs to be made inland it appears that only the Army is left to do the job.
If the Stryker replacement has amphibious capability it will be telling.
You focus on the sea battle instead of land combat then you can expect the Navy and Army budget to increase. What good is a Stand In Force that is only good in one region against one foe?

From my chair air defense on land seems to be much more difficult than at sea.
Take an assault against a fixed target on land. It can't move. You can pile up defenses to protect but then those defenses become targets. It can get expensive but a coordinated attack against a range of fixed targets stand a better chance of success than the same against an old fashioned surface action group.
Against an SAG you're facing air defense destroyers that are all equipped with long and short range air defense missiles. They can move at speed. They're able to mask their emissions and send out decoys etc...
If Russia did destroy a Storm Shadow then that's bad news for Ukraine.
That means Russia has doped out the missiles metrics. Ukraine only has a limited supply. Even worse they probably running short of delivery aircraft.
If Russia pivots towards making a concerted effort to knock down the "archer" instead of the "arrow" then they can effectively nullify the Storm Shadow poste haste.
Question. Can the F-16 even carry the missile?
Alert Contingency Marine Air-Ground Task Force needs to transfer from III MEF over to II MEF
Note. Below is an article from Marines.mil that does a little chest thumping about the AC-MAGTF. Haven't heard a word about it over the course of Berger's term until the Marines were left out of the Sudan operation. Having said all that the III MEF is NOT where this capability should lie, it should move to II MEF.
For better or worse (in my opinion worse) III MEF is fully engulfed in the SIF concept and won't be capable of performing the role. III MEF is without a doubt (probably the entire Marine Corps) a one region, one foe force. Even in the article the AC-MAGTF is regionally aligned and not a worldwide force.

Eric Clark, 4th Marine Regiment Commanding Officer, “and as you talk about the Marine Corps being a force in readiness, those Marines that are rehearsed, that are sourced, and that have mobility on standby to get them out quickly on that key maritime terrain; that's our bid for success within the region, whether you're talking about a humanitarian crisis or you are talking about actions by an adversary.”
Unique to III MEF, Marines across the force are sourced to provide a range of capabilities that can be coordinated and deployed within hours. The ACM allows the MEF to rapidly deploy a mission-specific force throughout the Indo-Pacific region that is responsive to the needs of a given crisis. Some of the capabilities within the ACM can include water purification, shock trauma care, emergency evacuation control, general engineering, airfield/port force protection, and embassy reinforcement.
The Marine Corps is undergoing a culture change with the SIF concept and is rapidly losing its identity.
If Marines are no longer doing amphibious assault, being a force in readiness and capable of fighting on land then what is the Marine Corps?
Why have a Marine Corps.
The delay in naming the next Commandant is for one reason. Berger is trying to shore up his support WITHIN the Marine Corps. The instant a successor is named is the instant he losing what power he has and all attention turns to the next guy.
Berger is the worst Commandant and worst leader the Marines have had in the big chair in my lifetime.

I guess the good folks in Norway don't like the "Ugly American" either...
What in th-Hmm. Is there a disconnect in European countries between the elected and those that elect them? I know its big in the US, but never considered the same applied over there. I blame drama like this on the Ukraine/Russia war and our foreign policy of the last...50(?) years. But what if the commentors on this blog that are such big warhawks for continued fighting and shit on any idea of talks with a ceasefire are truly representative of European opinion or just a vocal minority?

Jimmy Butler. Standing up for public order on the micro level.
I'm a Miami Heat fan. If you look up and down the roster they have a great team and Jimmy Butler is just pure dee stud.
It was his tenacity that first had me following him. There is no quit in the guy. It's 110% all the time. He's passionate about his work and rejects anyone that isn't putting out 110 too.

Combined Arms Breach....this is what Ukraine will be facing if they actually counterattack Russia. Confidence is not high that they'll be successful.
Think about this. Performing a combined arms breach is in the top 3 of military operations. Amphibious Assault being the most difficult in my opinion (no worry about that though...Berger gave up on it, but maybe the US Army will pick it up), Airborne Assault and last a combined arms breach.
Ya know what. Scratch that. Airborne Assaults are planned with the idea that LGOP will have to formulate plans as they go so move CAB up to number two.
After seeing all the fighting that we have up to this point do you think that the Ukrainians will be able to perform this complex military operation?
During Desert Storm the US Army and USMC were conducting CAB all up and down the line while the French did that deep desert feint.
But that was basically NATO (yep look at the roster) against one sorta medium power in the desert.

From where I'm sitting they don't have it right now.
If they do decide to go now then the Russians are gonna put them in self-made kill boxes and shred Ukrainian forces.
I hope the White House has a serious leash on Zelensky. If they do push ahead the images of burned up Abrams/Leopards/Challengers with crews hanging out of hatches burned up is gonna be a public relations nightmare.
They won't wait though.
War is politics and the politics of this fight means that if Ukraine fails and gets a bunch of its sons killed the blame will shift to them needing wonder weapon a/b or c, and how people like me calling for peace talks kept the various administrations from giving the Ukes what they needed.
