This is gonna get nasty.

Got this vid from EverydayNodaysOff blog.

The police militarized, some of them adopted an attitude of them against us...even against law abiding citizens and they thought that there wouldn't be blowback?

This is gonna get nasty and confrontations between police and citizens are going to skyrocket unless someone somewhere figures out how to put the genie back in the bottle.  I don't think it can be done but I can hope.

  1. So were they selling guns?
And what if the cop came back in civies just looking at what they have for sale.
What gets me about the confrontation videos we've been seeing is just that, it turns into a confrontation. It seems to me that we're looking at the cops as the bad guys, if what they were selling was not illegal than why not let him look.
Lets say that now something happens on the block and she calls 911? Hopefully there will be no hard feelings and the cops will arrive in a timely manner.

  2. oh i'm right with you. this is gonna get nasty but who is going to fix it. cops and citizens...not criminals but citizens appear to be ready to go at it.

have you noticed that this is mostly happening on the coasts? i see very few of these type videos coming out of the south and the midwest. but we'll see.

  3. Phil..it is your kind of thinking that is the issue. We have laws in this country that we all(police included) have to abide by. Cop are neither good nor bad guys...but they definitely are not your friends. A police officer, by his job definition, is looking for reasons to charge people with crimes(whether justified or not). And this statement by you is just plain ignorant "if what they were selling was not illegal than why not let him look." So by that logic if a cop shows up at my door at 2am and wants to search my house I should let him? Because by your thinking if I'm not hiding anything what's the big deal right? If I'm randomly stopped by a cop and he wants to search me I should submit because if I have nothing illegal on me I shouldn't worry? Can you see how dangerous that type of logic is? Police are just human..and like all humans with power if they aren't kept in check that power will be abused more and more. We are expected to play by the rules....Cops should be expected to as well...it's just that simple.

    1. I completely agree with your statement, everyone should watch this video

      http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4097602514885833865

describes exactly the pitfalls of the police why you shouldn't cooperate with them, maybe it go's too far but it is quite revealing.

    2. Great vid.

I would add that there is no logical reason really to voluntarily cooperate(mind you, I'm not talking about legally cooperate..obviously if you are served a warrant, etc not cooperating has legal ramifications) with the police. There simply is no upside. If you've done something wrong, voluntarily cooperating will just get you busted...that's pretty stupid. And the whole "Hey buddy, cooperate now and the judge may go easy on you" is just plain BS. If you've done NOTHING wrong, then there is no reason to cooperate. And since you aren't legally required to there are no legal ramifications for doing so. Of course, one could argue, "Why be such a jerk." And I would counter, "Are you SURE you aren't breaking any laws?" Let's face it, there are tens of thousands of laws out there today....between local, state, and federal. So many that judges/prosecutors/police don't even them know them all. I could easily argue that everyone in this country probably breaks at least one law unknowingly a day. Voluntarily cooperating with Police, etc just opens you up to prosecution for violating one of these obscure laws.

  4. @ John Gault, Your two comments almost contradict one another. And what makes you think that cops are neither good nor bad? You've never seen a bad cop? Do you have any cop friends? And when was the last time you've had a cop knock at your door at 2 a.m asking to search your house? Me personally, never.
I never said that we should be giving up our rights as American's, and that the cop should have come with a warrant, if he's searching the premises. What get's me is that the lady doing the talking and the officer that arrives first, seem to have a history. He knows who she is, not by name, but reputation.
    I've been pulled over, speeding. Did I act like a jerk towards the cop? No because I'd done something wrong and got caught. Do the crime, do the time, it's about personal responsibility and owning up to what we do. Today it is all about laying the blame on something other than our own actions;
Your wrong John, cops are supposed to be our friends, we are not in a military state, where the cops are out to get us. Police take up the calling because they want to make a difference.

  5. I wonder how US citizens would view the Peelian Principles of policing

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peelian_Principles

Established by Robert Peel, the acknowledged founder of modern policing they set out a series of principles that I wonder if many police organisations and the public are losing sight of a little

  6. great article TD. if Peelian principles ever existed in US law enforcement they've been long forgotten.

  7. I see these guys as doing their jobs. If I was a cop driving by and saw a bunch of guns hanging at a garage sale I would stop and look around. Kinda of the same thing I do when in deployed looking for ied materials and weapons. Again we see part of what is going on here

  8. occupied country ... war zone... versus a functioning country in the US. how hard would it have been to state what the officers saw to a judge and gotten an emergency search warrant. if they had even a small understanding of the law, the police would have stated, that they see what they believe to be illegal weapons in plain view and that they were going to verify that they were either real, fake or get an explanation. what the person that was video taping was able to do though is to challenge the police officer on whether what he was doing was legal or illegal and he wasn't able to state why he did what he was doing. additionally when the person that was challenging him requested a supervisor he continued to show that he was unsure of whether he was right or wrong and didn't immediately call one to the location.

long story short, the cop was well within his rights to investigate what was going on but he was unable to state that so in the end he was just acting as a bully and not as an enforcer of the law.

@ John Gault, Your two comments almost contradict one another.
READ THEM AGAIN..THEY DO NOT. I STATE ONE SHOULDN'T COOPERATE WITH POLICE UNLESS LEGALLY REQUIRED TO. PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD.
And what makes you think that cops are neither good nor bad? You've never seen a bad cop?
THEY ARE NEITHER GOOD(TELL THEM WHATEVER THEY WANNA KNOW, COOPERATE ALL THE TIME) NOR BAD(FIGHT THEM AT EVERY TURN..BE AFRAID THEY ARE GONNA SHOOT YOU) THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. NOR ARE THEY YOUR ENEMIES. IT'S POSSIBLE TO BE NEITHER TO YOU.
Do you have any cop friends?
YES. I WOULDN'T LET MY FRIEND SEARCH MY HOUSE WITHOUT A WARRANT.
And when was the last time you've had a cop knock at your door at 2 a.m asking to search your house?
ARE YOU REALLY THAT DUNCE THAT YOU CAN'T SEE A POINT I WAS MAKING? MY POINT WAS NEITHER THAT NOR WHAT THESE COPS DID WAS IN THEIR POWER TO DO. I HAVE THE SAME RIGHT TO TELL A COP WANTING TO SEARCH MY HOUSE WITHOUT A WARRANT TO GET LOST AS THE LADY DID TO TELL THE COP HERE TO GET LOST.
I never said that we should be giving up our rights as American's, and that the cop should have come with a warrant, if he's searching the premises.
YES YOU BASICALLY DID..."if what they were selling was not illegal than why not let him look. " YOU IMPLIED SHE SHOULD'VE LET HIM SEARCH HER THINGS.
What get's me is that the lady doing the talking and the officer that arrives first, seem to have a history. He knows who she is, not by name, but reputation.
DO YOU THINK THE "REPUTATION" COULD BE THAT THIS WOMAN ACTUALLY QUESTIONS HIS AUTHORITY AND DOESN'T PUT UP WITH IT LIKE MOST SHEEPLE? DID YOU NOT SEE HOW THE COP DID NOT HESITATE TO COME ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND BEGIN SNOOPING AROUND(ALL THINGS HE DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO)? IT'S PLAINLY OBVIOUS THAT HE IS SOMEONE WHO IS USED TO GETTING PEOPLE TO JUST ROLL OVER FOR HIM. DID YOU NOT SEE HOW QUICKLY HE BACKED DOWN WHEN HE REALIZED HE WAS ON TAPE AND IN THE WRONG? DID YOU NOT SEE HOW THE OTHER COPS WHO ARRIVED ON SCENE ALSO BACKED RIGHT DOWN?

RIGHT...AND IF I'M CAUGHT I TREAT THE OFFICER WITH RESPECT TOO. AND IF HE THEN ASKS TO SEARCH MY CAR I ALSO SAY NO. AND HE CAN'T WITHOUT PROBABLE CAUSE(SPEEDING DOESN'T GIVE HIM THAT). I'M NOT BEING A JERK BY DOING THAT...I'M STANDING UP FOR MY RIGHTS. AND THIS DOESN'T APPLY ONE IOTA HERE. THE PEOPLE WERE DOING NOTHING WRONG AND THE COP TRIED TO PERFORM AN ILLEGAL SEARCH AND HARASS THESE PEOPLE...END OF STORY
Your wrong John, cops are supposed to be our friends, we are not in a military state, where the cops are out to get us.
YOU ARE SO NAIVE. WE ARE MOST DEFINITELY LIVING IN A QUASI-POLICE STATE. THE POLICE ARE GETTING MORE MILITARIZED EVERY DAY. MOST COPS ARE EX-MILITARY. THEIR TACTICS AND TEACHINGS ARE MILITARISTIC. EVERY LITTLE TOWN HAS A SWAT TEAM WITH ARMORED CARS THESE. LOOK AT THE UNIFORMS NOW...I SEE TRAFFIC COPS ALL THE TIME IN BDUS AND TAC VESTS....AR15 RIFLES IN THEIR RACKS. READ MY POST AGAIN ABOUT HOW MANY LAWS THERE ARE OUT THERE. YOU PERSONALLY ARE BREAKING ONE EVERY SINGLE DAY...I'D BET MONEY ON IT. DO YOU THINK YOUR "FRIENDS" ARE ALWAYS GONNA LOOK THE OTHER WAY? BOW TO THEIR ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY AND NEVER STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS. IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ALLOW COPS LIKE THE ONE IN THIS VIDEO TO THINK THEY CAN ROLL OVER EVERYONE...AND THAT MAKES IT WORSE FOR EVERYONE ELSE THESE COPS COME INTO CONTACT WITH. IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE MAKING THIS PROBLEM WORSE.
Police take up the calling because they want to make a difference.
I'D AGREE FOR SOME...BUT MANY ALSO DO IT BECAUSE THEY WANT THE AUTHORITY. AND HUMAN NATURE IS THAT ONCE GIVEN POWER/AUTHORITY OVER OTHERS IT WILL BE ABUSED SO THOSE WITH POWER MUST BE WATCHED CAREFULLY. AS LONG AS POLICE OPERATE IN THE BOUNDS OF THE LAW AND TREAT PEOPLE WITH RESPECT AND NOT AS THE "ENEMY" THEN IT'S ALL COOL. UNFORTUNATELY, WHAT WE ARE SEEING TODAY(AND WHAT SOLOMON IS TRYING TO POINT OUT) IS THAT POLICE ARE NOT DOING THAT. THEY ARE ACTING LIKE AN OCCUPYING MILITARY FORCE. THEY ROUTINELY DISREGARD OUR RIGHTS AND HIDE BEHIND THEIR UNIONS AND QUALIFIED IMMUNITY.

  11. Cops are wearing the vests because of the amount of cop shootings. I live in the northwest, the past couple years have seen a number of police officers getting shot on the job, 4 of them while sitting in a coffee shop. Yeah I'd wear a vest too. The cop was within his rights to look around, what he lacked was tact. Again I ask, were they selling weapons? Lets say they were and the police had done a better job. They get a warrant and do a search, she has the right to refuse him, just as I have the right to let him look, correct? Your saying that I'm wrong because I would let the cop search through my things. If I don't have anything to hide, I can choose to do that. If I don't have anything to hide I can also ask him to leave, both are within my rights.

  12. i have to agree with Phil, i mean we have a nation of so many people with weapons, so many organized criminal organizations, so much drug problems (because of our horrible drug laws dont help), we put more people in prision by proportion of our society than most nations and many come out worse than going in, cops are responding to a more hostile environment. you all pick out videos that seem to cross a line but a few suggestive videos of a few bad situations doesnt make law enforcement in general bad, and most are good people serving their country (many of which are veterans). we need to have controls on law enforcement and make sure laws are being followed but hostility will only lead to mroe hostility.

And sol i dont think its just on the coasts, the coasts are not worse than the other places around the nation, i know the coasts are perceived as more liberal and so its natural to think they are worse but i think this is over stating a problem that really doesn't exist. I live in the NW too and we have had several great cops killed as Phil said, and the one who killed the 4 cops was released from Arkansas prison by Mike Huckabee who commuted his 108 year sentence.
