The US Missile Marines are soon gonna be as light as this abomination the Brits are experimenting with...
Amazing. Do they really believe that this force will have any currency in the Med, North Africa (ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME!!!!) or god forbid the Black Sea?
The Royal Marines are smoking the same crack that the US Missile Marine Corps is!
They're betting on deterrence cause if this "Commando Force" goes to war they're gonna get mauled without HEAVY SUPPORT (same as the USMMC).
Sidenote. Has forward deployment of our forces led to anything except MORE war? From my chair when a bad guy decides to do bad things they really don't care about who's floating off the coast or who has bases nearby. If that was the case then Carrier Diplomacy would still be a thing.
I admit this is a distasteful question but....
I'm gonna piss alot of you off but I've got to ask a distasteful question.
How long was Ginsberg "out of it" and should have been declared incompetent to continue as a supreme court justice before her death?
Ya know who knows without a doubt? Her fellow supreme court justices, her clerks and the powers that be in Washington DC.
You do know the inevitable reality of this situation don't you?
Only those deemed with the need to know actually knew about her suffering and eventual death. What I'm trying to say is that the nation could have been prepared for her passing and a more rational solution to her replacement begun but those "in the know" decided to do it on the sly. It's almost like both sides of the "SO CALLED POLITICAL SPECTRUM" wanted this fight.
Hate to hit you with the reality tribe.
But those in power view us as peasants. We think we live in a democracy? That's a lie. A democratic country would keep the nation informed. We weren't. My God we're fucked beyond recognition and most don't even know it.
America's Navy (and Defense Chief) really don't have a solution to the Chinese Navy problem.
Wow. Cdr Salamander nailed it. I've come to the conclusion that our Navy is in trouble vs. the Chinese. We have no real plan. We're trying to match them in their seat of power...SHIP BUILDING! A 355 ship navy is irrelevant. No, this isn't a call saying that I've come around to supporting the Missile Marines. Nothing could be farther from the truth. What I am saying is that the service most responsible for combat at sea is rudderless and doesn't appear to have a clue to blunt Chinese Navy advances. A few unmanned ships ain't gonna cut. Quite honestly from my chair the US Navy would have to give up its worldwide responsbilities and concentrate on the Indo-Pacific to gain parity/MAYBE superiority. I'm calling it now. We saw the Russian scare for the past 4 years. In the face of future budget cuts get ready for the Chinese scare. ALL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE PENTAGON, AND JCS ACTUALLY DID THEIR JOBS INSTEAD OF FEEDING THE POLITICAL SWAMP IN WASHINGTON DC. The seeds of our future defeat have been planted by this generation of generals. If your competitive advantage isn't so much your ships but the, "...training & skillset of those who operate them" you don't leverage that advantage by getting rid of the people through building a bunch of Unmanned Vessels who can only run on the most rudimentary automated ways. https://t.co/HxIosd7UtZ

Batman is a badass but Alfred is plain LETHAL!
Batman will kick your ass, maybe break some bones. Alfred? Alfred will put you in the grave...and he'll confirm the kill too!
Future generations will look back at 2020 and wonder why we were so stupid...

The left is really gearing up for the Supreme Court fight...this will be interesting...
Wil Wheaton (dude from Star Trek Generations) posted this on his Tumblr Page. Watching the news (MSNBC) the left has been in a lather all day.
This Supreme Court fight will be interesting.
The weird thing?
Most Americans are trying their best to get back to some sort of symbalance of normal and more concerned about everyday issues than they are about this.
The extremes from both sides will be fighting to gain our attention when all the rest of us want is to make it thru this year.
Pass the popcorn cause this will be something to see. I can't even predict it but you can bet your last dollar (well I hope it isn't your last) that everything is gonna get pushed to the side (including hopes by some for another stimulus check) and this will take center stage.
Sidenote. I don't recall but isn't the US govt running up against a budget deadline this month?
Anyway hold on.
This year is gonna go out with a bang...I just hope that its figuratively, not literally...but considering how things have been going it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see some popup big time conflict that no one saw coming.

Air Force reveals it secretly built and flew new fighter jet
Thanks to BlackTail for the link!

The Air Force on Tuesday revealed that it has secretly built and flown a prototype of its next-generation fighter jet, according to the service's top acquisition official.
The jet, built as part of the Air Force's Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, was first disclosed to Defense News on Monday.
Air Force acquisition head Will Roper told the outlet that the service could now move the jet into production "pretty fast."
"We are ready to go and build the next-generation aircraft in a way that has never happened before," he said in an interview.
Roper then publicly spoke on the jet's existence on Tuesday at an Air Force Association (AFA) virtual conference, telling watchers that "the full-scale flight demonstrator has already flown in the physical world."
He added that the program "right now is designing, assembling, testing in the digital world, exploring things that would have cost time and money to wait for physical world results."
The announcement is significant, as this would mark the Air Force's sixth-generation aircraft, a full-scale version of which was not expected for years.
The test flight also comes 20 years after the service first similarly demonstrated an experimental fighter jet for the fifth-generation F-35.
As the NGAD program is classified, little more is known of the secretive jet. Roper would not give Defense News or the AFA event further details on aircraft, including which company or companies built the prototype, how many were flown, and when or where any flight occurred.
He also would not say anything about the jet's design, what it would be used for, how many would be bought or the expected cost.
The Air Force did request a little more than $1 billion for the program in its fiscal 2021 budget proposal to Congress, to be ramped up to a more than $6 billion ask total between fiscal 2021 and fiscal 2025.
How do you explain this except to say that the USAF is acknowledging that the F-35 is the wrong plane for the future?
Some are pointing to long development times for new jets but I'm not buying it. The F-35 isn't even in full scale deployment in its "go to war" package (which has been watered down).
If you can't see the truth here you're just not wanting to see it.
The F-35 is a failure.
Even the USMC is cutting back on its numbers which will lead the USN to cut its numbers, the USAF has bought into the F-15EX, the Brits are cutting back....the reality is stark.
Not only did we waste time chasing tribals in the Middle East/North Africa, but we also bought a lame horse in the F-35, a pitiful ship in the LCS, and a messed up DoD all around.
Is this the last stage of a failing empire? An ineffectual and confused military?

Turkey's amphibious assault vehicle successful in latest test
Turkey's leading defense manufacturer FNSS Defense Systems has successfully tested its latest amphibious assault vehicle, the ZAHA, to ensure the vehicle can return to an upright position after capsizing in water.
The test was announced by the Defense Industries Presidency (SSB) Chairman Ismail Demir via Twitter Thursday.
Demir, sharing a video from the tests, said that the step achieved for the amphibious vehicle was an important part in the ZAHA’s engineering verification.
“In case of capsizing at sea in harsh weather conditions, ZAHA has the ability to rotate itself without harming the crew and using an additional system. With this test, verification activities have been completed and qualification tests are now being started,” Demir said.
The FNSS – a significant defense industry exporter that sells armored vehicles worldwide – was charged with designing the vehicle to meet the requirements of the Turkish naval forces.
Turkey is one of only a small number of countries to have the capacity and infrastructure to produce this type of combat vehicle.
As part of the project, the FNSS was asked to produce 27 vehicles, to be delivered at the start of 2021 and to be completed by 2022.
The 21-personnel-capacity ZAHA marine assault vehicle (MAV) is designed to facilitate the rapid movement of naval troops to mission locations and allows marines to reach shorelines in the shortest time possible and to tackle enemy threats.
The MAV is set to operate like an armored combat vehicle when on land, offering ballistic and mine protection.
It was initially showcased at the International Defense Industry Fair in Istanbul on May 1, 2019.
The ZAHA is expected to be deployed in the TCG Anadolu, a Landing Helicopter Dock-type (LHD) amphibious assault ship that is under construction at Sedef Shipyard in Istanbul’s Tuzla.
The flagship-to-be LHD allows the use of several types of aircraft as well as enabling the transfer of large numbers of military personnel and armored vehicles.
It's obvious that the Missile Marine concept has been in the works for awhile now. But if they decided to EVOLVE the Marine Air-Ground Task Force instead of toss it out for the Missile Marines, would we have gone the same way that the Turks have?
After the failure of the EFV would we have gone with a dramatically upgraded AAV?
I kinda think we would but only God knows for sure.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dead at 87... a few things I noticed...
Story about the death of the Supreme Court Justice is here.
A few things I've noticed...
* Do you remember a week or so ago and the President announced his Supreme Court picks? I thought it strange, noted it and moved on.
* A talking head, while talking about her death, stated that she knew that this was coming for a couple of weeks. Long story short? The powers that be knew this was coming while they kept us in the dark.
* The Dems are going crazy. I've heard talk of expanding the court. Talk about pulling out the stops to stop a nomination from moving forward etc...
* Sad to say but its terrible to die at work (by choice, not by accident). I don't understand the mentality of Ginsburg's generation but they refused to step aside. May she rest in peace but may she be forever criticized for clawing to power till death....even when SHE HAD TO KNOW that her health was failing.
* The above brings me to this. Remember when Obama left office and there was a push for her to step aside so that Obama could appoint her replacement? I use this as a data point for the chaos that's about to hit. One person's lust for power is about to damn the country for more drama.
I'm sure there is more but that's what I have for right now. Opinions?
