Buried News. FBI Director: Chinese espionage "most significant" spy threat facing the US

via Free Beacon.
China, rather than Russia, is the “most significant” long-term threat to the United States, FBI Director Christopher Wray said Wednesday.

During an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt at the Aspen Ideas Forum, Wray said that the FBI has economic espionage investigations in all 50 states that trace back to Chinese activity.

“It covers everything from corn seeds in Iowa to wind turbines in Massachusetts and everything in between,” said Wray.

My point?

The ground where I plant my flag?

This Russia thing is child's play.  The serious threat is being ignored.  We have a chance to do the work necessary to win the coming fight but instead are distracted by foolishness.

Historians will call us silly and foolish and they'll be right.  This is the real news from Wray's talk at the Aspen Ideas Forum but few will report it.

Think about that.

The vaunted FBI Director has told the nation that we face a more serious spy threat from China than Russia and it's not page one news.

We're screwed.

America better get ready for when Russia takes off the "espionage" kit gloves....

So the latest is that the FBI arrested some low level Russian chick for failing to register as an agent for a foreign country.

Awesome.

Low level crime and NOT part of the espionage code.  In other words she's not what they're categorizing her as...a spy.

But it does make clear that anyone that has ties to Russia is now a target...how we can not be looking hard at the Chinese is beyond me but politics has its own particular flows I guess...

The point is this.

As much as they like to call the bullshit stuff that Russia did in the run up to the Presidential election an attack they ain't seen nothing yet.

IF the Russians determine that better ties are impossible.  IF the Russians decide that they will be treated as a category 1 enemy for the foreseeable future then boy and girls you better saddle up for a real rough ride.

Ask some of the old skool spy guys that sometimes frequent this blog...intel officers but you get the point...

If things go off the rail and if those reasonable folks that know history don't step up and moderate this shit then you will literally start seeing people die some weird deaths.  I'm not talking about the Novacheck idiocy in the UK but real deal we don't know how they died killings in and around DC.

I won't even ponder the fate of personnel stationed in Russia.

My bigger point is that this is fun and games but could turn deadly serious in the blink of an eye unless cooler heads prevail and quickly.

Do I fear the Russians?

Nope.  Not at all.

Do I respect them as potential foes?

You bet your ass.  In a conventional war we would win.  But this won't be conventional and we'll be fighting on ground that they're the master of.  It will be messy chaotic and depending on how it plays out it could escalate to levels that we're not ready for.

You heard it here first.

Congrats to a War Dawg and reader of the blog!

Getting a little swag and even better news.  John a real deal War Dawg and reader of the blog is gonna get a chance to join the enemy and leave the ranks of the enlisted and become one of those rare animals that reside in the Marine Corps.

Congrats bro!  Never forget where you came from and keep it real....Don't let the academy clan infect you!

Fucking well done!

Anyone have info on the Vympel R-37M Air to Air Missile.....

Thanks to Rogerrio for the link!

via Free Beacon.
Russia's Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced that a new weapon is very near completion of its test validation trials and will soon be placed into service.

If reports of its operational performance are accurate, it will threaten the survivability of every U.S. combat aircraft currently in service—particularly the newest U.S. fighter, the Lockheed Martin F-35.

The weapon is the Vympel R-37M air-to-air missile. Launched from a fighter aircraft, it is designed to hit targets at ranges of up to 188 miles, its warhead section contains 132 lbs of explosive material, and it is reported to be capable of speeds of up to Mach 6.

This missile gives Russian aircraft an advantage over U.S. combat aircraft in both speed and reach. The most advanced versions of the US-made Raytheon AIM-120 air-to-air missile top out at about Mach 4 and have a range of only about 110 miles.

Defense planners are alarmed at the number of fighters Russia plans to fit with this weapon.

The missiles that preceded the R-37M had been exclusive to the weapons fit for the Mikoyan MiG-31 aircraft. The MiG-31 mission was almost entirely dedicated to shooting down U.S. strategic bombers and other large aircraft that might pose a threat to Russian air space, so these missiles were typically not often seen outside of Russian territory.

However, according to MoD sources, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKO) are planning for Sukhoi model aircraft Su-30, Su-35, and Su-57 to all operate with the R-37M, in addition to the MiG-31. The missile will therefore be capable of being fired at almost any U.S. military aircraft in numerous theaters of operation worldwide and not just within Moscow's territorial airspace.
Story here.

Blast from the past. Apparently the US and UK owned the North Pole in 1987~

Canadian TAPV's for internal security inside Baghdad, Iraq?

Thanks to Jonathan for the link!

via Ottawa Citizen.
Canadian military planners are currently going over options for the upcoming mission to Baghdad starting in the fall. The deployment includes a force protection group of about 125 personnel. They will provide on-site security for the NATO headquarters in the Iraqi capital city as well a mobile force protection group. The force will be outfitted with armoured vehicles for transportation, according to the Canadian government.

Defence Watch asked Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan’s office if LAV-llls were going to be sent. But Byrne Furlong, Sajjan’s press secretary, said no final decision has been made yet on the type of armoured platform troops will use.

One Department of National Defence official suggested that armoured SUVs could be used since the patrols will largely be in Baghdad.

Which raises the question- what about using the new Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle?

The vehicle is highly mobile and provides a very high degree of protection for its crew, according to the Canadian Army. It is not as big as the LAV-lll and could be better suited for an urban environment.

Furlong said more information on the composition of the mission and equipment it will use will be released at a later date.

While security is tight in Baghdad, there still attacks. The United Nations reported that 19 people were killed and 18 injured in various attacks in the city in June. In January, suicide bombers killed 38 people and injured more than 105 others.
