Late Open Comment Post. 28 Aug 2020

Well the power is back on, no damage to the house just a few knocked over trees and tons of limbs to get up.

The hurricane was indeed interesting but fortunately for us (sorry for others) we were spared the worst of the thing.  Additionally because I live in a rural area we're back up much quicker than some of the urban communities within driving distance (extended power outages, no running water but thankful no EXTRA criminal activity).

Many are doing terribly and prayers up for those folks.

Members of the Task Force are headed down to help out in S. Louisiana and the National Guard is doing their thing so give them a shout upstairs too.

All in all?  I'm good and thankful.  Back to regular blogging over the course of the next few days.

"Call Of Duty: Black Ops" says what my readers have...we're being attacked from the outside because those inside are being influenced/led astray...

A few of my readers have been sounding this drumbeat.  Now "Call Of Duty" is repeating it too.

Could they be right?  Could the US be involved in a massive scheme to weaken our country from the outside using our own democracy to get it done?

More bad news. The Missile Marines will probably go below 150K boatspaces...

Dan Goure was talking about LCACs and why the Missile Marine Corps will still need them (he doesn't make a very good argument...the heaviest piece of kit that will go ashore will probably be the HIMARS and that'll be on those tramp steamers Berger wants to buy) and while doing it made this statement...
The Planning Guidance states explicitly that the Marine Corps will no longer be sized or equipped to conduct large-scale opposed landings.
I've touched on this before but it needs to be highlighted.  The Missile Marine Corps will no longer be sized or equipped to conduct large-scale opposed landings (meaning that amphibious forcible entry is off the table now...the USA is essentially left with Airborne Assault as the only means of putting troops on the ground deep inside enemy territory) AND will no longer be capable of sustained ground combat.

That means that the Missile Marines will get smaller.

In one swift move Berger eliminated Tanks, MPs and a couple other organizations.

You can't bet body parts that you highly value he ain't done.  Have you seen the pics of the unmanned JLTV sporting both a cannon on one variant and a HIMARS pod on the other?

I've given you the bad news that LAR is dead, they just don't know it yet. The same can be said for most of the remaining artillery units.  Check out that pic above.  Unmanned 105mm cannon.  Unmanned 155mm cannon.  Unmanned HIMARS.  And whats with them?  Looks like one MTVR and one JLTV.  That means that one gun crew will probably be paired with "monitoring" those warfighting robots.

Artillery is about to raped by the Commandant (and I don't think he'll use lubricant).

I hear what you're saying.  What does that have to do with the Missile Marines going below 150K boatspaces?

Go thru his hit parade...

1.  Opposed large scale landings are off the table.

2.  Sustained ground combat operations are off the table.

3.  The number of F-35's bought is going to be reduced.

4.  The number of AH-1Zs, UH-1Ys and CH-53Ks kept or purchased is going to be reduced.

5.  He has stated in his planning guidance that HE WILL shed personnel to pay for "modernization" (read that to mean buying anti-ship missiles).

Long story short?  The Missile Marines could possibly go down to 100K and HQMC will claim ENHANCED combat power while not being capable of doing what it once did.

The real question that must be asked.

Why did Berger CHOOSE to go this route?  Why did he determine that limiting the Missile Marines to one unique mission set in one theater was a better way to go rather than simply seeking to add a capability to that Marine Division that is assigned to the Pacific (he also said that we will no longer see mirror divisions/MEUs...with that being the case why didn't he simply tailor the 3rd MARDIV to operations in the Pacific?).

My belief?

I don't think this is about helping fight the Chinese.  The token forces arrayed against the Chinese armada will see the sea battle lost and those Missile Marine forces on land isolated, fixed and destroyed.  The contribution to the sea battle will be too small to make a difference and the ability to repel a Chinese amphibious assault has been pissed away.

So what is it!

It's about budgets.  This is about money.  This is about tucking underneath the Navy because future budgets are gonna be tight as hell.

My prediction?

The hardwon independence that the greats of the US Marine Corps fought for is about to be given away.  Returning to our naval roots will see the Missile Marines back to what it was before WW2 with the same results.

Berger is breaking the oath.

The Missile Marines will be least prepared when the nation is least prepared.  The CHAOS and FRICTION he's introduced will see any Chinese action against US interests met with the same shock as was seen at the start of the Korean War.

Additionally we'll probably see the Missile Marines pushed back to the sea hoping that the 82nd or Army Rangers can jump in to save them.

It's a bleak future but it's one that's coming this way because we got another transformationalist instead of a leader that sought to steady our ship and get us back on our bearing.

Starting with Amos the Missile Marines will be 0-3.  I doubt the next guy (or gal...that will completely square the circle and I can see it coming...someone we've never heard of too) will be who we need so make that 0-4.  Four failed leaders in a row?  How can any organization survive that?

LAR is dead. Deal with it!

via Force Structure 2030
Increase in Light Armored Reconnaissance

While I have repeatedly stated that all-domain
reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance will be
a critical element of any future contingency, I remain
unconvinced that additional wheeled, manned armored
ground reconnaissance units are the best and only
answer
– especially in the Indo-Pacific region. We need
to see more evidence during Phase III to support this
conclusion before engaging in an expansion of our
existing capacity, or committing billions of dollars
in procurement funds towards the acquisition of an
Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV).
That's from your patron saint Commandant Berger.  Not Solomon but from Berger.

What was that?  You can't read between the lines?  Ok.  Let me help you out.

1.  The LAV-A2 despite upgrades is still an "old" vehicle.  Its combat capability on a modern battlefield is limited.  An upgrade is needed.

2.  Money is tight.  Berger points it out but few want to believe him (I believe him after he brutally killed Tank BN and then tried to celebrate the Marines that once served in that unit) but he's clear. "We need to see more evidence during Phase III...committing billions of dollars in procurement funds towards the acquisition of an Advanced Recon Vehicle".

That's crystal clear to me.  He has his focus and hasn't even started buying his precious (though limited) anti-ship missiles.  Knowing Berger's vision and his focus on the 1st Island Chain which do you think he will prioritize?  ARV or Missiles?

3.  He also gives a hint that he'll try and split the baby by keeping LAR in name but switching to perhaps robotic ground vehicles, unmanned air assets or even a mix of the two.  The unit might survive in name but will be unrecognizable to many of us

Long story short?

LAR is dead.  Deal with it!

Is Berger simply rebuilding Marine Defense Battalions? SURE SOUNDS LIKE IT!

via Wikipedia..
Marine Defense Battalions were United States Marine Corps battalions charged with coastal and air defense of advanced naval bases during World War II. They maintained large anti-ship guns, anti-aircraft guns, searchlights, and small arms to repel landing forces.
----------
Unlike the mobile Marine forces involved in offensive actions, defense battalions were detached to key outposts, in the Pacific and one in Iceland,[1] and remained at the station they defended.[2] Most varied greatly in size and equipment. The battalions often had several coastal gun batteries, several anti-aircraft batteries, a detection battery (searchlights and radar), and machine gun units. While a few had composite infantry companies attached, most defense battalions were responsible for providing their own riflemen.
Here.

Wow.

Kinda hits you square in the face don't it!  Berger isn't looking to the future, he's trying to relive the past.

You look at this "Littoral Force" and you think its audacious, bold, and forward looking?  You're wrong.  It's weak, pathetic and aimed at one enemy in one location.

It's a revision to the past that so many Marines honored but sought to grow beyond.  The Marine Corps is a medium weight force that can flex up and down the spectrum of conflict.  That is capable of fighting in all climes and places.

Not a one trick pony waiting on a battle that might never come.

This rioting and looting is something else entirely...another pic from the troubles...

via BADASSERY INSTAGRAM PAGE
This commie terrorist with his pistol thought he could take on a young patriot protecting the local businesses armed with an AR rifle. He was wrong. Lucky for him he was only shot in the arm. The communist who attacked the patriot protecting the businesses with a skateboard, as he was running from the mob, got shot in the chest. Another rioter, who tried to attack the patriot with the AR, got shot in the head. In an ironic twist other looters and rioters stood over their dead comrades and screamed and cried for the police. Seriously.

Word to the wise; If you're going to play at being an commie anarchist and feel compelled to go out and attack and destroy, don't cry and call for the police when you and your shit head friends get shot in the face. #report @f1firearms

Hey folks.

This shit is getting out of hand.  I don't know what the leadership of the cities involved in this are thinking but again...its getting out of hand.

Let's put a few misconceptions aside.  This is being labeled Black Lives Matters.  It ain't.  This is pure anarchy.  The bradishing of weapons is indicative of a mad max moment from my chair.

Police aren't visible in many of the pics I'm seeing and that's an issue.  I can understand why.  Hands are tied.  Defund movements are taking hold.  No one wants to risk it.  I get it.  But things are out of control!

Is it time to send in the National Guard?

Yeah.

I think its time.

Sidenote.  The Instagram Page listed usually covers firearms.  It's made a turn toward covering this and the reality is that MANY firearms pages are making the turn with them.  A sign of the times?  Don't know but I do make note of the verbiage used.  Commie Terrorist?  Once again.  We need to get a handle on this.

My fear?

What happens in Nov?  No matter who wins people are gonna be pissed.  Things could get dicey in some parts of the USA.

Another pic from another incident.  This dude I follow and actually like..TREX Arms.

This ladies and gentleman: is why I emphasize speed. Accuracy is important, but if you can’t even get on the gun because of circumstances: it doesn’t matter how accurate you are. Dry fire your weapons handling. Get it fast.

And yes, the mob chasing and then getting on top of this guy after he tripped were armed. Dude on the left has a Glock 26 in his hand.

Hey Berger. Summer Fury means nothing to me! Show me that the Missile Marines can fight in Africa and the Middle East!

via USNI News.
Last month, 17 squadrons with San Diego, Calif.-based 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing joined with 1st Marine Division and 1st Marine Logistics Group units for exercise Summer Fury 2020, held over three weeks across Southern California and southwest ranges.

The large-scale exercise had two goals: deploy an integrated MAGTF to conduct expeditionary advance base operations (EABO), and “increase aviation operational proficiency with realistic, relevant training to ensure the Marine Corps’ largest aircraft wing remains operationally excellent, interoperable, deployable on short notice and lethal when called into action,” the Marines said in a statement. This year’s training scenario simulated operations across an expansive island region like the Indo-Pacific.

The 3rd MAW pushed fighter jets, helicopters, Marines and combat equipment hundreds of miles, from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Camp Pendleton north of San Diego to Naval Air Station Lemoore and China Lake Naval Weapons Station farther north in California and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in Arizona. Aviation ground support Marines set up a series of forward arming and refueling points, or FARPs, to support the aircraft, and heavy-lift helicopters moved artillery guns – all missions that helped project combat forces and stretch the MAGTF’s operational reach.

“From there … you’re penetrating into badness,” the wing commander, Maj. Gen. Christopher Mahoney, said in a recent interview at his MCAS Miramar headquarters. “How are you going to exploit that distance? You exploit with adapting your capabilities and being quick about it. So get in the door when they ain’t looking – and then go. And then ultimately, in our business, you’ve got to destroy something.”

“You exploit, whether it’s distance, whether it’s the electromagnetic spectrum, whether it’s penetrate the geo-political environment,” Mahoney said. “Then you need to destroy – in most cases – and that’s what we do.”
Here.

I AM SO UNIMPRESSED!   They got a favorite journalist to get out their story? Big Fucking Deal!

You exercised to fight a fight you want and you got the results you wanted.  Again.  Big Fucking Deal!

We've seen this story several times before.  We saw all the services gear up for a nuclear fight that never came.  We saw them prepare for a big push by the USSR thru the Fulda Gap.  IT NEVER CAME~!

What did come?

Fights and emergencies everywhere else!

Can this "new" Missile Marine Corps fight in the Middle East or Africa?  I don't think so.  We're seeing hybrid forces that are TEARING APART dispersed units and they're untrained insurgents!  They're operating everything from MBTs to IFVs and have anti-air missiles that are taking pot shots at anything in the sky!  ADDITIONALLY THEY HAVE BALLISTIC MISSILES THAT THEY'RE RAINING ON SAUDI ARABIA!

I won't even talk about what the Russians will do to this force if it ever decides to deploy against them.  The Russians will be like a grizzly bear with a dogs chew toys.  They're gonna rip this force apart.

It's theater specific.  Enemy specific.  Diplomacy dependent.  Air Centric.  MESS!

Go back to the drawing board.  This ain't the Marine Corps.  This is an abomination.  Unfortunately you're proceeding at pace without any thought and it'll take a reformer to get our house back into order.

The funny thing?  I thought Amos was bad.  Berger is turning out worse.

The Italians proved that SHOCK has an affect on dismounted infantry! The Missile Marine Corps is making a mistake by believing that well equipped infantry isn't vulnerable!

Think about it.

The Italians assaulted Siberian Infantry using an outmoded tactic and with SHOCK, SURPRISE, OVERWHELMING VIOLENCE and overcame that dismounted infantry.

The result?

Surprising to my eyes.  A Cav charge against what was then modern infantry?  They should have been shot to pieces.  But to lose 32 cavalrymen to 150 dead and 600 taken prisoner?  ASTONISHING!

My worry?

The Missile Marines are making the same mistake.  They might have written off the tank but the tank hasn't been written off everywhere else (the Brits don't count...it's obvious they're piggybacking off the US now so they're thinking coalition warfare).

I can actually see a modern version of this historic event playing out.  Massed armored formations that aren't taken out by long range fires (I keep thinking about bad weather like at the Battle of Bulge at the start of that thing) or aviation.  They close within distance and its a rout.  SHOCK ACTION is being underestimated but its still a part of battle.

We flew a U-2 thru a Chinese no-fly zone????

Wow.

Gutsy.  Very gutsy.  Wait!  What would we do if they did the same?  I have no idea.

Maybe not gutsy.  Perhaps provocative?

The Dept is on standby.  This should be interesting.  Never done this before but everyone is getting out the high water rescue stuff and the command staff is jumping around like ballerinas.  Should be educational (except that people's lives will be affected).  Was told to NOT turn the phone off (I feel there is a message in that but I'm not picking up what they're putting down ... pun intended!).

Coronavirus, protests, riots, mayhem in general and now Texas/Louisiana are getting hit by a hurricane?  2020 is turning out to be one FUCKED UP year.

BTR-82AT with unmanned combat module

That turret!  30MM cannon, two anti-tank missiles and optics...does it have the "Russian Trophy" attached?  Regardless its a smart, neat upgrade of the vehicle.  Makes too much sense for the West I guess....Wonder if it can still swim though.

Story here.

Japanese V-22 looks so good!

This shit has nothing to do with protesting. This is something else...

I don't know who's running these "protests" but what you're seeing aren't protests.

They're something else and they're vile.  One of my readers said it best.  This is downright evil.

This is the breakdown of society.

What I'm seeing are people that they view as "easy prey" and they're harassing, assaulting and generally being an ass with them.  I can't tell you what to do if you find yourself in the situation this lady is facing...or many of the other people (of all colors) that have found themselves facing these pop-up mobs (actually saw a "document" that called them that) but assess the situation and your/family safety is all that counts.

If you see it coming retreat.  If you can't then stand your ground.  If attacked then fight as if your life depended on it...cause unfortunately it might.

The B-21 is the medium bomber we've all been yelling for...

Someone here said it earlier but here it is in print.  It will carry have the payload of the B-2 (apparently) which I would say it meets the specs of the medium bomber we've all been yelling for.

Good on the USAF for that.

Now?

Now let's hope that the stealth requirement didn't overload the costs of this puppy and we can get a couple hundred into service.

This is joint capability (if properly exploited) that can help the Navy ACTUALLY solve the problem of the massive Chinese fleet.  A hundred B-21's loaded with anti-ship missiles coupled with carrier aviation, subs and the rest of our tactical air fleet (short legged as it is) can at least put them on their back foot.

Even better?

This can put an end to Berger's madness and we can keep the Marine Corps a MEDIUM WEIGHT FORCE that can flex up and down the spectrum of combat and is capable of fighting all over the world (including AFRICA...and the ARCTIC...you're gonna need some type of mechanization up there or you'll freeze to death) not just the Pacific!

The great?

Disciplined foreign policy, a trained populace (or continued tariffs to raise the price of imported goods), a frugal shopper and nationalism with a small "n" means that a chance at diplomacy might yield a bit of fruit.

The Chinese are pragmatic.  The Pentagon has been slow to recognize the real threat (don't know why they're so fixated on Russia..don't poke the bear the bear won't fuck with you) but they have now.  The fight which I saw coming  won't be a walk in the park for the Chinese.  In other words we won't get steam rolled.  I don't know who would win the fight but it will be a pyrrhic victory so why would either side bother?

If this plane works and the Navy makes some adjustments (along with Army missiles) then the fight can be avoided in this region.

This is redesigned K2 named K2PL Wilk (Wolf), proposed for Poland.

Personally I like the proposal.  Add enough Polish systems and a little bone to the Polish defense industry and I bet they'd bite.  Besides it would piss of the Germans and the Poles like pissing off the Germans.
