John Bolton is the new National Security Adviser?

The Neo-Cons have returned.

God save us all....

Rockets on MV-22's is being talked about again...

via Marine Corps Times.
The Marine Corps is considering a new plan to arm the MV-22 Osprey fleet and is now thinking of putting rockets, missiles or other forward-firing weapons on the tilt-rotor aircraft.

A more capable and heavily armed Osprey will be able to provide its own escort protection, a development the Corps has been pursuing for several years now from lessons learned in Iraq and Afghanistan, Marine officials say.

The Corps’ latest plans to put forward-firing weapons on the Osprey comes at a time when the Marines are rethinking their long-standing hopes for a reliable all-quadrant weapon system that can shoot in many directions.

Efforts to build and deploy an all-quadrant weapon have faltered in recent years.

In the long run, the additional guns on the Osprey would be a somewhat temporary stopgap measure while the Corps continues to develop a massive futuristic sea drone. The future expeditionary sea drone program is known as the MUX.

Over the next decade, the Corps wants to develop a serious-heatpacking expeditionary armed sea drone that can complement the long-range capabilities of newer aircraft like the F-35B/C, CH-53K and MV-22.

But it’s going to be years before the Corps can field that, so new modifications for the MV-22 could fill the void in the meantime.
“We may find that initially, forward-firing weapons could bridge the escort gap until we get a new rotary wing or tilt-rotor attack platform, with comparable range and speed to the Osprey,” said Col. Romin Dasmalchi, Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation.
Story here.

A couple of things.

1.  Remember we talked about Marine Air being somewhat unbalanced?  We have an assault transport in the form of the MV-22 being able to outdistance and outrun its traditional escort in the form of the AH-1Z and UH-1Y, well this would help bridge that gap...I guess.

2.  I wonder if it'll work.  All I can think of when I hear this is CH-47 Guns - A - Go Go.  That effort didn't work out too good.

3.  That big UAV they're trying to sneak under the radar in increments is gonna be a sight to behold.  I just don't know if that will remain unmanned. This mission specs are Tucano like and I really believe that it could hazard the F-35 buy.  That's why they're slow walking it but it remains to be seen if the F-35 can be made affordable.  I still have my doubts so the effort might get super charged.

All in all it makes sense.

But make no mistake.  This is a stop gap to fill a deficiency that should have been anticipated, especially in light of Amos trying to build a fictional SPMAGTF-CR...a land based MEU light that was aviation centric, that ultimately failed because even with enhanced reach and speed, it just didn't have the ability to support the infantry on the ground at distance.

Saudi Arabian F-15's are getting knocked out of the sky by Houthi anti-air systems...

Thanks to Vodknar for the link!

Simple question.

What are the Houthis using to knock down Saudi advanced fighters?  Bear in mind these aren't shoulder fired missiles but telephone pole sized missiles streaking into the air and tagging a fighter that is in some ways superior to what USAF pilots fly.

Are the Saudis simply that inept and stupid?

Do they lack EW support and are simply getting ambushed?

I can't figure it out and I don't know the type of missile the Houthis are using but the one solid branch of the Saudi military is being exposed as being nothing more than a VERY expensive paper tiger.

The Saudi Air Force was once hailed as the most technologically advanced in the region and its pilots were said to not only train with Western forces but to equal their skill.

All that was obviously a lie.

I don't want to turn this into a bash Saudi Arabia post but what the hell is going on with them?

Note;  Many of you will be reactionary and say that the recent palace intrigue is the problem.  To that I say nope.  I've followed it and the Saudi Princes that man those pilot seats have been UNAFFECTED by that drama.  This is something else.

I TOLD YOU PEOPLE! USAF General says we have no defense against new Russian Hypersonic missile.

A short time ago I did a blog post which stated that we need to forget about the Nuke powered ICBM the Russians are building and focus on developing a defense against their Hypersonic missiles.

Many of you people ignored me, told me I was wrong and basically told me I was full of shit.  Well check this out via Free Beacon.
The United States lacks defenses against Chinese and Russian hypersonic missiles and needs to speed up work to counter the threat, the commander of the Strategic Command told a Senate hearing Tuesday.

"Both Russia and China are developing hypersonic capabilities," Air Force Gen. John Hyten, commander of the Omaha-based Strategic Command said. "We've watched them test those capabilities. So both Russia and China are aggressively pursuing hypersonic capabilities."
Story here.

Take a beat.

Let me link all this shit together for you.

1.  Trump called Russia to congratulate Putin on his election victory because WE NEED TO TAKE THEM OFF THE TABLE OF ENEMIES.  We might not be friends but we need to reach an understanding.  WE NEVER WILL with China but it's possible with Russia IF WE'RE SMART!

2.  Trump announced that he would meet with Putin in the very NEAR FUTURE and that they would discuss the new ARMS RACE!  Truth be told WE CANNOT FUND conventional and strategic defense at the level necessary to confront both Russia and China.  China is a mortal threat.  Russia DOES NOT NEED TO BE!

3.  The news media is caught in their Trump derangement syndrome and ARE FAILING to put together these simple threads.  SO ARE MANY OF YOU PEOPLE!

Long short?

We have labored long and hard chasing primitives with AK's and RPGs in the Middle East.

That was a short sighted and foolish strategy.

What did we actually accomplish?

We gave competitors time and space to catch up.  Everything from air to sea to ground power is at risk.  Name one domain and I can point to a capability where we are outmatched and our allies CANNOT provide a capability greater than those we already possess.

Our allies look and fight just like we do and because we're vulnerable that means the entire Western world is vulnerable.

We have to develop a defense against these systems.  If we don't then we can't even hang our hat on the MAD concept!

Wow. The package bomber didn't stand a chance...tech has created the police state on steroids...

Haven't talked about it but yesterday I was gonna write about the package bombing in Texas.

The post was gonna a bit like this.  That the authorities better get a handle before things spiral...especially in a city like Austin that is kinda liberal, very laid back and easily spooked.

Well they got the guy last night/early this morning.

But what has me spinning is some of the techniques that were used to nab the dude.

Reporters are talking about capturing and comparing cell phones that were in the area when the bombs went off (and I'm sure hours before too).  They talked about how they have face recognition that can compare any video they have of a person with EVERY drivers license and ID card in the state (wouldn't doubt if this has gone nationwide...especially with my state charging a small fee to make my DL suitable for air travel/entrance into federal buildings).

Of course they covered the old skool techniques of attempting to trace the components to certain stores that the suspect might have used.

Long short.

If you want to carry off a major crime spree that gets the attention of the national media you must do a few things.

1.  Short duration.  If you stay and play when the Law Enforcement Army moves in then you're on a clock to capture or death.  If you're a bad guy then make your play and get the fuck outta dodge.

2.  Grey man is your friend.  To do something like this properly you have to go off the grid and STAY off the grid for years before the act.  I really don't know how you would do that.  The puzzling thing?  EVEN IF you go grey man that will highlight you EVEN MORE!

3.  Move with speed.  This is actually part of my first point.  But you've got to keep moving.  The minute you put yourself in a static position (because you're at home or in a hotel you like) you are vulnerable.

In short?

Law Enforcement has information dominance over the public.  Call it a gentle police state if you will, but if you warrant the full attention of authorities in this day and age you won't last long.

Local Cops in California not responding to calls of assistance from Border Patrol?

via The Daily Caller.
In one example, the El Cajon Police Department refused to help Border Patrol agents pursue three suspects who were fleeing in a vehicle, despite multiple requests form Border Patrol dispatch.

“After the event, it was determined that the officer declined the request to assist presuming it was an immigration matter, as opposed to a fleeing subject whose identity/immigration status was not known at the time of the incident,” Scott wrote. “This declination for assistance occurred even though it involved a vehicle that failed to yield, endangering federal law enforcement and the public while traveling on a California Interstate and highway within their jurisdiction.”

Other California sanctuary laws have impacted the Border Patrol’s ability to locate illegal aliens, Scott says. One is Assembly Bill 450, a law enacted in October that, among other provisions, prevents businesses from granting border agents access to “nonpublic” areas of their property unless the agent has a judicial warrant.
Story here.

This is crazy.

I didn't think much of the new California law because I considered it business as usual but this could get nasty.

Even worse.

It could get people killed.

From my seat car chases in California seem like they're batshit crazy and any chance to end them as soon as possible would be in everyone's best interest. The idea that Border Patrol will pursue vehicles with boatloads of people inside and not get assistance is beyond my understanding.

They need to sort this out.

How does your 9mm Ammo perform in a ballistic gel test?

Caution with these tests bros.  Everyone likes to crunch the numbers and do comparisons but just like all those bubbas that swear by .40 cal and can't hit shit with it, the sad truth is shot placement is the crown jewels of putting down a bad guy.

Don't matter if he's six feet eight inches and muscled up beyond belief or five feet two and a buck forty soaking wet but has superman strength cause he's been doing meth for the past 12 hours, it all comes down to shot placement.

Remember the mantra.

Six in the chest and the rest in the pelvic girdle.  Why?  Because for the average person, aiming center mass (chest) will usually deliver results and if it don't then pelvic girdle shots will render him incapable of doing further harm (assuming your load is ineffective in stopping him...remember Miami Shootout!).

Why no head shots?

Watch people on the streets.  The head is animated, it moves around especially for the mentally deranged, or drugged up.

6 in the chest the rest in the dick.

Check out the test here to see how your ammo performed.
